What are the responsibilities and job description for the Groundskeeper Foreman Parks and Recreation position at Eaton County?
Under the supervision of the Facilities Director in conjunction with the Parks Director or their designee(s), mows and trims grass and performs other tasks in maintaining all the County Parks. Will be responsible for training, overseeing seasonal operational staff. Including, but not limited to enforcing park rules and regulations and performing public relations. Assists with installing and maintaining equipment and facilities, vehicles, mowers and other equipment. Assists the Parks Operations Supervisor in the execution of ongoing maintenance and special parks projects.
Starting pay is dependent on an applicant's relevant experience.

Responsible for training, overseeing seasonal operational staff and/or community service workers and volunteers. Including, but not limited to the following items:- Regular cleaning of Park’s shelters, restrooms and other facilities and replenishing supplies.
- Regular cleaning of Park’s trash, litter and debris pick up and collection.
- Assists the Parks Operations Supervisor in overseeing projects such as landscaping, construction and trail maintenance.
- Oversee teams of seasonals operating power and hand equipment including some mowing/trimming.
- Assists the Building and Groundskeeper in directing seasonals to carrying out maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
- Direct and oversee seasonals to set up reserved park areas, including moving additional tables and trash barrels as needed.
- Oversee seasonals in the execution of any other duties as assigned.
3. Assists the Building and Groundskeeper in maintenance on departmental equipment and vehicles.
4. Responsible for learning or performing a variety of operational and maintenance functions, including but not limited to:
- Operating tractors, riding mowers, power mowers and hand equipment to trim grass, trees, shrubs and hedges.
- Installing landscape timbers, spreading wood chips and performing other landscaping tasks.
- Responsible with removing brush, dead trees and other debris from grounds. Operates chainsaw and other power equipment.
- Operates front-end loader and uses other equipment in repairs and improvements within the Parks Department.
- Assists in the construction of equipment and facilities, includes assembling and maintaining playground equipment, signs, footbridges, trails, parking barriers, picnic tables, grills, stairways, building equipment and structures. Utilizes a variety of power tools.
- Performs maintenance tasks such as equipment repair, carpentry, painting, masonry, landscaping, erosion control and plumbing as needed for parks operations.
- Operates plow truck and snow blowers to remove snow from County Parks parking lots and roadways. Shovels trail staircases and other areas inaccessible to power equipment.

Education and Experience:
- Possession of a High School diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience working in a similar capacity is preferred.
- Valid State of Michigan Driver’s License with a good driving record.
- Ability to obtain a chauffer’s license through the State of Michigan.
- Ability to obtain Pesticide Applicators Certification within 6 months of hire.
- Subject to a criminal background check, driver's license checks and pre-employment physical, including drug screening.
- Must have dependable transportation.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with the public.
Other Requirements: Position could involve working nights, weekends, holidays and on-call.

- Ability to hook up to trailers, load and unload equipment, and transport equipment to park properties.
Working Conditions:
- Works outside in varied weather conditions including heat and humidity, cold and freezing for long periods of time.
- Works in tight spaces when performing work functions.
- Works in inclement weather.
- Exposure to various cutting tools and equipment such as mowers, chainsaws and other power tools.
- Works in all areas of the County Parks system.
Salary : $42,827 - $55,660
