What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full Time Med Surg LPN-Eaton Rapids position at Eaton Rapids Medical Center?
Provides nursing care to assigned patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse and in accordance with the objectives, policies and procedures of the hospital and the state Nurse Practice Act. Maintains the standards of nursing care as established. Participates in patient teaching and discharge planning. Utilizes growth and development principles to identify age specific needs, and to provide age-specific care and treatment. Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities. Identifies health and safety concerns and unsafe work practices within the workplace. Is involved in developing safe work practices and is held accountable for the day to day efforts of ensuring a safe workplace by following safe work practices. Provides safe quality care in cooperation with all departments using the Nursing process and critical thinking skills. Is a patient advocate.
- Provides patient orientation, communicates health status data of assigned patients including physical, social, emotional, educational, spiritual, and discharge needs, to the Registered Nurse. Communicates data and findings to other members of the health care team and reports adverse changes to the Registered Nurse or Physician. Delivers direct patient care consistent with standards of care guidelines and policy and procedures within the nursing department. Gives concise and accurate change of shift report based on current status of patient needs and outcomes of care provided.
- Identifies individual patient safety needs and responds appropriately. Provides patient safety through preventative measures. Implements action and responds to emergency situations and codes per protocol.
- Assists Registered Nurse with indicating and/or contributing to the formulation and updating of a written nursing care plan based on problem identification, nursing diagnosis, specific outcomes, and appropriate nursing measures. Provides and documents ordered treatments. Administers and documents medications including IVPB and maintains IV Saline locks. Assists in patient education and discharge instructions.
- Organizes work for completion based on patient need priorities using an understanding of the principals of growth and development; recognizing each patients age specific needs and providing appropriate treatment and care. Serves as advocate for patient's dignity, privacy, confidentiality and care.
- Participates in staff meetings and unit based Quality Improvement activities to improve patient satisfaction and quality care.
- Participates in required and voluntary continuing education programs to reach professional growth objectives, and maintains own education record. Assumes responsibility for tracking continuing education.
- Knowledge Meditech and other programs as needed.
BLS required upon hire and maintained throughout employment. Graduate of an approved school of practical nursing. Currently licensed to practice in the state of Michigan.
