Description
- Operates instruments and performs procedures within scope of training, utilizing established protocols. Performs scheduled maintenance procedures. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and acts according to established protocols.
- Performs, records, and maintains accurate quality control records. Recognizes out of control results and takes appropriate actions; remedial documentation is performed and recorded in a timely manner.
- Answers inquiries regarding results and factors affecting results. Interacts with health care team, maintaining patient confidentiality. Acts as a liaison and fosters effective communication between laboratory and health care team.
- Performs pre-analytical sample processing according to established procedures
- Performs waived to highly complex laboratory testing according to established procedures.
- Performs routine inquiry and data input on the laboratory computer system and related clerical duties.
- Prioritizes workload to maximize efficiency while meeting patient and physician needs.
- Verifies patient identity and performs venipunctures, blood cultures, bleeding times, drug screen collection and micro techniques accurately and efficiently following established procedures, including proper labeling of specimens.
- Assumes responsibility for specimen collection and testing systems considering the age-specific and physical needs of the patient.
- Processes biological specimens for analysis following established procedures. Evaluates and solves problems related to specimen collection and processing and presence of interfering substances.
- Maintains established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control. Complies with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies by attending mandatory in-services and continuing laboratory education and participating in continuous quality improvement. Maintains and upgrades personal development.
- Drafts and review procedures. Participate in new method evaluation as requested
- Acts as a team leader as assigned, by establishing and completing objectives. May direct the scheduling and completion of all activities. May instruct, assign work and provide guidance to co-workers in the absence of supervisory personnel.
- Demonstrates effective, positive verbal communication skills to those served by the laboratory
- Instructs new employees and students as required. Presents educational information to employees as requested.
- Restocks all necessary supplies in order to maintain established stock levels.
- Performs other duties as directed by laboratory manager or laboratory designee.
Requirements
BLS required upon hire and maintained throughout employment. Bachelors of Science degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field. Registry eligible or comparable experience in a clinical laboratory. ASCP registry or equivalent required, or willing to obtain within 12 months of employment. Must meet CAP Gen. 53625 Technical Consultant or Gen. 53600 General Supervisor qualifications. Minimum of one-year experience comparable to those performed in ERMC laboratory.
