What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full Time- Orthopedic Clinic Medical Assistant-Jackson position at Eaton Rapids Medical Center?
Collects, records, and maintains various patient data. Sets up, stocks and maintains patient area and equipment as directed. Orders supplies, Schedules machine/equipment repairs. Performs patient assessment, documents in medical record and helps prepare patient for examination or procedure. Functions within the level of their certification and clinic policies/procedures. Work cooperatively with staff and physicians to achieve the highest quality of care for patients. Works closely with providers to provide assistance when necessary. Performs other related responsibilities when necessary as assigned. Identifies health and safety concerns and unsafe work practices within the workplace. Is involved in developing safe work practices and is held accountable for the day to day efforts of ensuring a safe workplace by following safe work practices.
- Prepares patients for clinic visit or procedure by taking vital signs, weight, and other pertinent information per physician protocol and assists practitioner when required. Participates in patient education.
- Cleanses wounds, changes dressings, removes sutures, and places and removes casts. Additional duties as assigned if trained and demonstrated competency and knowledge of universal precautions
- Prepares in advance for clinics/procedures per protocol by requesting x-ray films, retrieving information from Meditech (PCI), and additional requirements per request of practitioner. Demonstrates competency for using the clinical version of electronic medical records (EMR) for the orthopedic physicians/Apps.
- Demonstrates competency in phlebotomy and specimen collection.
- Demonstrates ability to use Medivator and cleaning solutions for cleansing and sterilizing equipment Maintains accurate and current record of Medivator utilization. Demonstrates proper care, cleaning handling and storage of medical instrumentation and related equipment /accessories, reporting malfunctions/damage to office manager or designee.
- Practices within the guidelines of job description and refers patients to physician or qualified medical staff if unable to provide/satisfy patient needs or answer questions.
- Contributes to Quality Improvement and Job Hazard Analysis processes for department.
- Effectively maintains ongoing communication with co-workers, office manager, and CNO keeping them informed of pertinent information that effects patients care, physician issues, and/or other departmental issues of concern.
- Demonstrates excellent customer service skills in dealing with physicians, staff, peers, and public/customers.
- Administers injections after demonstrated competency and with understanding of dosage, side effects, allergic reaction, and after checking order and dosage with physician or qualified medical staff.
- Demonstrates knowledge of universal precautions and sterile technique.
- Assists with scheduling duties as needed.
