What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Engineer position at Eaton Steel Bar Company?
The Mechanical Engineer has the responsibility for developing new or improved designs related to the manufacturing process. This position will support all of the plant goals for improving safety, quality and cost reduction initiatives by evaluating manufacturing processes, equipment and tooling, collecting data, note observations and make recommendations for improvements.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop new or improved designs in the manufacturing process.
- Participate in design & build of new equipment, prove-out new equipment, bid packages, procurement, and supplier management.
- Utilizing AutoCAD and/or Solidworks for design initiatives.
- Evaluating manufacturing processes and equipment by observing and collecting data, note observations, and make recommendations with the goal of improving efficiencies and costs.
- Monitors project progress and develop strategies to meet design targets.
- Supports plant goals for improving safety, quality, and cost savings initiatives.
- Support engineering builds start-up support and resolving issues.
- Analyze tooling selection and application.
- Provide technical support for installation of new equipment/processes.
- Provide technical support for training of plant personnel.
- Coordinate needed support resources to achieve project objectives.
- Troubleshooting and problem solving of equipment operation, efficiency, and material flow.
- Work closely with production, maintenance personnel, and suppliers to ensure timely completion of projects.
- Participate in corrective/preventive actions and continual improvement initiatives.
- Participate in the development of Process Review documentation, including Process Flow Diagrams, Control Plans, PFMEA, and work instructions.
AUTHORITIES:
- Stop any process or equipment that is deemed as a potential danger to any employee
- Stop any process or equipment that is deemed as having an equipment malfunction
- Stop any process or equipment that is producing material that does not meet customer demands
- Approve purchase orders up to $1,000 without additional approvals
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Education β BSME Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
- Proficient in AutoCAD or Solidworks.
- Experienced in various automation, material handling, robotic/vision systems, etc.
- High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual or difficult.
- Highly proficient with basic safety standards.
- Strong background in manufacturing and quality system activities.
- Must have a working knowledge of quality systems such as ISO 9001
- Must also be skilled with use of computers and working with various computer
- programs.
- High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS
- Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly lift up to 50 lbs., bend, lift, climb, stoop, stretch, stand. Job requires lots of walking and stair climbing.
- Work Environment: Regularly exposed to heat, cold, dust, noise, humidity, fumes, etc.
- May be required to work overtime or any shift, including weekends, to meet company commitments/goals
