Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or a related field
Preferred Qualifications:
- Six months of professional planning experience (may include internship experience)
- A valid driver’s license
- GIS experience

Under direct supervision, this position is responsible for performing a variety of entry-level and intermediate technical planning-related activities including collecting and gathering data related to land use and development activities, providing technical assistance to the development review process, and providing general assistance in the implementation of community development programs. This position utilizes general knowledge and an educational background in urban planning, communication, technical, analytical, and graphic skills. This position is responsible for working with planning, development, the public and special interest groups to carry out, under direct supervision, day-to-day tasks identified in the work program of the Planning Division.
Performs technical assistance necessary in the implementation of the City’s zoning and land development regulations. Includes answering daily questions, approving land use and zoning permits, monitoring compliance with field inspections, and enforcing code violations.
Assists the Inspections Division with building plan review related to zoning and field inspections for site plan compliance. Assists other City divisions with necessary zoning compliance on related licenses or other needed approvals.
Supports the Planning Manager in the updating of the City's zoning codes, Comprehensive Plan, neighborhood plans, special area plans. Tasks include data collection and analysis, public meetings, public presentations, surveys, writing, graphics, and publication.
Assists the Planning Manager with the City’s development review process, including report writing, zoning, site plans, subdivision, signs, enforcement, and other necessary matters.
Assists the Planning Manager and Administrative Associate IV with processing applications.
Assists with the work of various boards, commissions, and committees as assigned or needed, including preparation and presentation of work plans, related reports, maps and associated tasks. Supporting the Sustainability Advisory Committee is a key responsibility.
Performs technical activities, including the use of GIS, necessary in the development, implementation, and updating of zoning maps, ordinances, research activities and projects.
Represents the Planning Division on various internal or external review committees.
Performs related duties as required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS
A bachelor’s degree in urban planning or related field is required. Six (6) months of professional planning experience (may include internship experience) is preferred.
A valid Wisconsin Driver’s License is preferred.
GIS experience is preferred.
