The City of Eau Claire is accepting applications from engineering students for two engineering intern positions. The two available positions will be three-month internships for the summer of 2025. The interns will be exposed to all aspects of municipal engineering including pavement inspection, plan interpretation, street construction, and more!
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in an Engineering program or a related field at a university or technical college.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Be at least 18 years of age
Typical schedule: Hours vary, Monday-Friday, 7am – 7pm depending on contractor schedules, with overtime as required.

JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION SCOPE
Engineering intern students will be exposed to all aspects of municipal engineering including pavement inspection, plan interpretation, inspection of underground utilities, and street construction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Inspects and maintains detailed records of the construction of sanitary sewer, water main, storm sewer, and street construction on projects assigned.
Monitors contractors of construction contracts for compliance with plans and specifications.
Performs duties on the survey crew involving preliminary surveys and construction staking.
Inspects and rates existing streets using a pavement management system.
Assists with gathering data related to traffic and pedestrian studies.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs related duties as required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS
Enrolled in an Engineering program or a related field at a university or technical college.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Must be at least 18 years old.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Job consists of a combination of walking, standing, stooping, bending and crouching. Must have ability for frequent handling/finger dexterity, with ability to reach and twist. Lift/carry on occasion up to 50 lbs., with frequent lifting/carrying/pushing of 25 pounds. There will be exposure to heat, cold, wet, and slippery conditions.
