Requirements:
- High School Diploma
- Possess or obtain (within 6 months of hire) and maintain a valid Class B CDL with no air brake restrictions.
- Possess or obtain (within 90 days of hire) and maintain Commercial Pesticide Applicator 3.0 Turf and Landscape Certification
- Technical knowledge in the area of ornamental horticulture relating to the care and management of herbaceous and woody plant material, turf maintenance, pesticide use and application with thorough knowledge of irrigation systems of operations and repair.
Preferred Qualifications:
- An associate degree in a related field.

**Landscape Technician Recruitment Snapshot**
Under general supervision, performs highly skilled work in a variety of mechanical and building trade tasks with the primary focus being the maintenance of turf and landscape areas. This position performs all the functions of a Community Service Worker II with specialized knowledge and training in horticultural practices with an emphasis in turf and natural/native plantings. This position may be assigned to a certain division, but can be moved to assist another division to complete a task/project as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Maintains and operates irrigation systems.
Maintains NR151 program and procurement of botanical supplies.
Interprets and works from blueprints and sketches or penciled layouts.
Cultivates the landscape plantings in the City’s public parks. This includes being able to distinguish the desirable plants associated with a designed planting and nurture the plantings for optimal development.
Maintains records of fertilization, herbicide, and other chemical use.
Maintains records of equipment maintenance and a seasonal maintenance calendar.
Establishes and maintains native plant areas.
Establishes and maintains floral areas.
Establishes and maintains turfgrass areas.
Performs minor electrical work and repairs.
Operates and maintains park maintenance equipment.
Selects, calibrates, and applies fertilizer.
Performs custodial duties for buildings and restrooms.
Maintains and repairs exterior and interiors of shelters and miscellaneous structures, including plumbing and concrete work.
Inspects facilities, machinery, and equipment noting conditions indicating the need for repair and maintenance.
Maintains and repairs bleachers, fences, roofs, pumps, and other site amenities.
Adjusts, repairs, and replaces facility components.
Paints walls, doors, and athletic fields.
Floods outdoor ice rinks and grooms ski trails.
Configures layout and marking of athletic fields and courts.
Reads and sets simple grading plans.
Maintains turf (level 1) and broad knowledge of turf equipment.
Advanced custodial service knowledge.
Strong customer service and public contact skills.
Assists in development and maintenance of leisure time areas, and submits written reports and develops drawings as requested, both written and computerized format.
General orders for assignments are designated by supervision and transmitted verbally or in writing, but this position is expected to develop their own work methods and procedures.
This position must have a thorough understanding of Park Maintenance operations and standards allowing them to lead or support the assigned projects.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs related duties as required, such as city-wide municipal services of snow removal, ice control, and mowing.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS
A High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, etc.) is required. An associate degree in a related field is preferred.

Community Service Supervisor (Parks)
Parks, Forestry, Cemetery, Buildings and Grounds Manager
May occasionally direct seasonal laborers or act as lead person for a crew.
Frequent standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, twisting, climbing, kneeling. Will occasionally work in heat, cold, wet, noisy and dusty conditions. Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of 10 – 25 pounds, with occasional lifting of 20-50 lbs. The position is classified as medium according to the City’s job demand physical analysis.
