POSITION SCOPE
Design, implement, and support computer network infrastructure using the most suitable technologies; build out and advance the network to meet organizational requirements while upgrading existing infrastructure with new technologies and hardware; utilize current technologies, including firewalls, filtering, and VPN systems, to manage network security effectively; develop and update network documentation to maintain accurate records of the network's current configuration; monitor network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and address issues as they arise.
Possess knowledge of principles and practices of various computer network topologies and technologies; practices and techniques related to the design and implementation of different types of networks, including wired (copper and fiber optic), wireless (Wi-Fi, LTE, cellular); skills in the use of diagnostics tools and troubleshooting methods used in the design and support of complex networks using a wide variety of layer two and layer three technologies.
Understand and apply principles and practices of various computer network topologies and technologies; design and implement different types of networks, including wired (copper and fiber optic) and wireless (Wi-Fi, LTE, cellular); utilize diagnostic tools and troubleshooting methods to support complex networks, employing a wide variety of layer two and layer three technologies.
Able to acquire, analyze, and troubleshoot network systems data, identify problems, develop and provide solutions and produce information as needed by departments.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other City employees, vendors, and the public.
Monitor network utilization, detecting operational problems and opportunity for improvements, including troubleshooting issues, capacity planning and testing; providing support and development where needed in a timely and accurate manner.
Provide network performance reports for management staff when required, outlining network status and performance for troubleshooting purposes or justification for expansion.
Provide network design services which meet and exceed the needs of the City of Eau Claire.
Develop detailed implementation plans to accommodate network needs and security; maximize optimization and functionality of network equipment (i.e. Cisco routers, gateways, switches, etc.).
Develop and evaluate project requirements to generate accurate plans outlining the needs of the project and what existing resources can be used and what needs to be built. Oversee the timely and accurate analysis of company and third-party vendor requirements.

Ensure a high level of network security by configuring all City network and security equipment according to a high level of operational security standards; making certain software updates are performed in a timely manner on all network infrastructure and security systems to provide up to date protection. Work as part of the IT Security Team to include security in the development of all architectures within the City technology environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is primarily in an office environment but will occasionally need to drive to other City offices, storage, maintenance, and shop facilities, and equipment sites.
