What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician position at Eau Claire County?
Applies knowledge and skill in facilities maintenance to perform general carpentry work, electrical wiring, and painting in the construction,signage, and repair of facilities; conducts routine inspection and maintenance of existing buildings and signs; estimates materials and labor costs for construction projects; interpretsblueprints, plans, and specifications.
Exercises proficiency tin arc and acetylene welding and metal fabrication; performs metal fabrication work to fabricate specialized equipment for grooming trails and maintaining and repairing equipment.
Utilizes plumbing expertise to perform routine plumbingand related maintenance activities including winterization of water lines and plumbed facilities.
Operates and maintains specialized and heavy equipment; clears land for road and trail development, new construction, and tree planting; installs culverts and constructs drainage ditches on forest roads; operates snow grooming equipment to groom recreational trails for skiing; assists in repairing and operating dams; maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs equipment.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with stakeholders; communicates with department employees regarding the safe and proper use of equipment and necessary repairs on equipment.
May be assigned to assist with emergency operations including firefighting.
Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three (3) years of paid, full time work experience in mechanical and facilities maintenance, including construction, repair, plumbing, and electrical work.
- Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
- Position will require a pre-employment physical exam.
- Position will be subject to pre-hire, random, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver License and acceptable driving record.
Training or experience in general construction including carpentry, masonry and cement work, electrical installation or repair, metal fabrication including welding and the operation of acetylene torches.
Two-year technical degree in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding, heavy equipment operation, mechanics, or related field.
Proficiency in personal computer use with Microsoft Office software.
