PURPOSE OF THE JOB
- To apply accrued technical knowledge and experience in the individual or participative plan and execution of engineering projects that precipitate designs, application and test for products, contracts, systems or processes.
- Perform analysis related to machinery dynamics and acoustics.
- Maintain databases relevant to machinery dynamics and acoustics.
- Acquire internal and external data to benchmark and improve Elliott products and prediction capability as needed. Internal data collection could be by record or by physical testing. External data collection could be by literature or by outsource testing.
- Provide technical support to others.
- Baccalaureate degree in engineering required.
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with focus on rotordynamics, vibration analysis or acoustics is preferred
- 5 years of specialized training and experience in rotating equipment/turbomachinery and related disciplines that provides technical qualification for assigned function. Demonstrated effective judgement and independence of action. Knowledge of company policies, markets, organization structure and procedures.
- Specialized training and experience in one of the following areas: lateral or torsional rotor dynamics, fluid film bearings, dynamic properties of labyrinth and other gas seals, blade dynamics, machinery acoustics, or machinery vibration.
- Familiarity with the following programming languages preferred: MATLAB, Python, Excel VBA
- Familiarity with the following software tools preferred: XLTRC2/XLRotor, Dyrobes, ANSYS CFX, ANSYS Mechanical, NI Labview
- Evaluating the results of analysis and testing to make engineering decisions and recommendations
- Performing analysis for bearing/gas seal dynamic characteristics including stiffness and damping of any newly developed bearing/gas seal
- Maintaining and updating torsional and lateral rotor dynamics analysis software
- Understanding industry standards including API, ISO, ASTM, and relevant international industry standards to ensure proper foundational basis for technology development.
