Repair work will include overhauls; general maintenance upgrades and rerates for OEM and non-OEM equipment.
Purpose of the Job:
The Shop Engineer will engineer repair solutions and ensure the technical integrity of all work performed in the Repair Shop, while following Elliott and the industry standards. This position performs as a technical liaison for the repair shop team, field service and field sales personnel in performance of customer repair projects, shop modernization projects and general engineering and drafting in support of same. The primary objective is to ensure that good and sufficient technical oversight, where required, is applied to mechanical repair and modernization work performed within the Houston Service Center.

Background and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace), Bachelor of Science Engineering Technology, equivalent four-year degree.
- Min. 7-8 years of total experience with (but at least 5 years working with rotors, compressor and turbine repairs, inspections and overhaul) Rotary equipment such as Steam Turbines and Centrifugal Compressors.
- 2 years' experience in shop engineering or related experience including but not limited to fabrication, machining, & creation of industrial drawings.
- Background with repair methods such as Welding, Coating, Assembly and Dis-assembly of all levels and complexity for numerous designs/ equipment (blades, impellers, rotors, casings, full units).
- Basic exposition with metallurgy, material selection, heat treatments.
- Ability to work overtime as needed
- Recommend Safe work practices as per policy, across the plant.
- Meet & exceed annual objectives.
- Provide technical assistance to shop floor regarding the tooling and machining practices of a particular part.
- Support the development and implementation of continuous improvement activities of operations including, but not limited to, establishing best practices, standard work instructions, safety culture and habits, and good housekeeping techniques.
- Dealing with non-conformities in a systematic way established in the QMS. Review and disposition product non-conformances.
- Systematic archiving of all engineering Job related records in timely manner for better traceability and retrieval.
- Tooling and fixture design and developing.
- Ensuring that the Quality Assurance Plans are strictly followed without any deviations while providing engineering support/ repair recommendations.
- Set methods and criteria for execution of repair work in the shop in conjunction with the Lead Engineer.
- Create Work Packages detailing Process specifications and Material specifications and other technical details required for execution of the project.
- Ensure the technical integrity of all recommendation of work performed in the Repair Shop and ensure value addition in order to improve current methods/ processes.
- Prepare the Repair Proposals based on the contract reviews and feasibility study.
- Compile findings and technical data in order to prepare Customer Reports (repair recommendations).
- Assist the shop floor during the repair execution.
- Support the Sales Engineers in quotation phase.
- Responsible for reverse engineering of non-complex non-Elliot product to achieve the successful completion of component repairs and delivery.
- Execute service engineering assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, CAD and criteria which may involve independent action and decision.
- Collaborates with other departments to insure prompt and effective problem-solving of reported service shop troubles for assigned product line.
- Performs liaison functions with other engineering departments on the specification, manufacturing, assembly, material quality, testing, repair, performance and operation, for assigned product(s). Includes consulting with field service, service parts, and service repair on field trouble jobs, defective parts, rebuilds, rework, etc., and to rerate group on new parts orders, engineering studies and design changes.
- Prepare and approve layout and detail drawings relating to shop problems and service order requests.
- Prepares and reviews assigned writeups for technical manuals, special process specifications and work instructions.
- Review customer specifications as required and provide comments and exceptions to quality, inspection, and testing related items.
- Assist in customer witness inspections and tests as necessary.
- Apply engineering principles in the development of repair recommendations for turbomachinery
- Support reverse engineering team for complex non-Elliott product to achieve the successful completion of component repairs.
- Reviews assigned work scopes for the repair of turbomachinery while ensuring repair recommendation/ PO/ repair work scope are in line.
- Familiarity with all the most common NDT methods (PT, MT, UT, Zyglo, hardness test, PMI). It does not require to be certified/ qualified to perform these inspections (knowledge to be used for engineering purposes only).
- Strong knowledge and ability of using conventional metrology tools/ measurement tools.
- Strongly familiar with 3D metrology fundamentals and coordinate system.
- Familiarity with relevant ISO, ASME, and API codes and regulations.
- Advanced knowledge of standard drawing symbols, tolerances (GD&T).
- Advance skills with 3D modeling and detailing technical drawings (CREO is strongly desired, but Solidworks, Invertor, and similar will be considered).
- Basic AutoCAD and FEA abilities/ knowledge.
- Understanding of the criticalities involved in Turbomachinery repair processes.
- Understanding of Cost Optimization (cost vs benefit ratio) during repair recommendation process.
- Strong understanding of engineering practices.
- Fabrication & machining methods.
- Repair methods such as Welding, Coating, Assembly and Dis-assembly for all levels and complexity of numerous designs/ equipment (blades, impellers, rotors, casings, full units).
- Basic knowledge of metallurgy, material selection, heat treatments.
- Good understanding and demonstrable exposure to Environment, Health and Safety practices is essential.

- Vibration analysis knowledge/ familiarity will be considered.
- Travel requirements should be minimal, travel on the weekend may be required.
- Travel to customer site or others Elliott Service Centers as needed (unlikely, but possible).
