The Medical Assistant is a vital role to the pain clinic. The Assistant will utilize both clinical and administrative tasks to help clinicians in the pain clinic. Daily responsibilities include checking-in patients, assisting the physician before/during/after procedures, in addition to various administrative tasks such as conducting prior authorizations and documenting medical information into the electronic medical records (EMR) system. The Assistant must be attentive to patient needs and communicate any potential issues to staff. The Medical Assistant identifies patient needs, provides safe and professional care, and communicates any needs to the provider. Duties/Responsibilities
- Triage patients.
- Take vitals.
- Prepare/clean up procedure rooms.
- Assist physicians with a wide variety of procedures.
- Fax notes to other practices.
- Document patient notes in EMR (eClinicalWorks).
- Obtain prior authorizations for procedures.
- Assisting with front desk processes when needed.
- Assist with the C-arm.
- Handle difficult situations with professionalism and tact.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma.
- Must possess a Medical Assisting Certificate from an accredited program.
- Two years’ medical assisting experience.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Proficiency with EMRs.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with staff, physicians, and external customers.
- Strong ability to multitask and move from one project to another as needed.
- Works to resolve problems or determines an appropriate course of action in a timely manner.
- Strong time management, follow-through, and organizational skills.
- Work performed in an office environment.
- Involves frequent contact with physicians, leadership, and medical office staff.
- Work may be stressful at times.
- Interaction with others is frequent and often disruptive.
- Requires long periods of standing and walking.
- Physical activity can be irregular and fast-paced, regularly.
- Must possess sufficient eye-hand coordination/manual dexterity to operate medical and office equipment.
- Required normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports and evaluations.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds with no assistance.
