POSITION SUMMARY:
An employee in this position performs manual and clerical work in receiving and checking shipments from outside the facility and issuing supplies to nursing personnel. The employee also performs various service and messenger type tasks. The work requires familiarity with a great variety of stock items, ability to make accurate counts in receiving and issuing, and ability to exert considerable physical effort. The work is performed under general supervision and is checked by observation, physical counts, and a review of records.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITLES:
1 Fills requisitions from nursing departments for a variety of medical and other supplies; assembles items and delivers on hand truck; obtains signature of person receiving supplies and files requisition forms;
2 Receives shipments from trucks at shipping and receiving platform; checks items against purchase orders and places them in stock;
3 Picks up and delivers mail and performs messenger service for facility;
4 Assembles items received in an organized system;
5 Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights;
6 Must know medical supplies
7 Performs related work as assigned.
SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1 High school diploma or GED is preferred for this position.
2 Must be able to read, write and understand the English language.
3 Basic computer skills.
JOB SKILLS:
1 Must have working knowledge of facility procedures for receiving and issuing medical supplies.
2 Must have some knowledge of the nursing organization and layout of floors.
3 Must maintain inventory control. This means having the ability to recognize a great variety of items kept in stock and make accurate count of items received and issued.
4 Must have ability to follow oral and written instructions.
5 Must have ability to read and write.
6 Must have ability to add and subtract.
7 Basic computer skills.
8 Must have ability to use hand tools in routine assembly tasks.
9 Must possess the ability to positively interact with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
10 Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
PERFORMS RELATED DUTIES:
1 Interacts with residents, families, visitors and employees.
2 He/she carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands-on intervention/participation may be required.
