Job Summary:
This Physical Therapist provides treatments to patients by evaluating their function and selecting suitable treatments to improve or restore function. They participate in interdisciplinary approaches for in-service training and community education, as well as clinical education of affiliating students. This role may also involve cross-site coverage.
Education and Certification:
- Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy program with a minimum of a B.S.
- Hold a current Connecticut license in Physical Therapy.
- Certified Manual Lymph Drainage Therapist required.
Competencies:
- Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficient in Windows-based programs needed for department functions.
- Basic keyboarding skills, desirable but not required, in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and internet search capabilities.
- Reliable transportation for travel between multiple work sites.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluate patients based on departmental standards.
- Conduct and modify evaluations based on patient symptoms, activity level, and medical status, establishing individualized goals.
- Treat patients with appropriate exercises (strength, endurance, coordination, ROM).
- Administer physical agents (modalities) and manual techniques to relieve pain and attain established goals.
- Utilize techniques to normalize motor activity and learning.
- Educate patients/families in home exercise programs and functional activities.
- Determine when a patient has achieved maximal benefit and recommend discharge if appropriate.
- Document according to insurance guidelines and adhere to department policies.
- Foster interdepartmental communication and communicate with referring physicians regarding patient care.
- Accurately fill out and submit charges daily.
- Adhere to professional code of ethics established by APTA and the facility.
- Perform duties with proper body mechanics and safety.
- Supervise at least one affiliated student per year.
- Attend continuing education courses to improve treatment techniques.
- Participate in departmental or community in-services.
