POSITION SUMMARY
Provides treatment to patients by evaluating their function and selecting appropriate treatments to improve or restore function. Participates in an interdisciplinary approach for inservice training and community education, as well as the clinical education of affiliating students. May be responsible for cross-site coverage.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
- Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy program with a minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree.
- Holds a current Connecticut license in Physical Therapy.
COMPETENCIES
- Requires strong English communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficient in using Windows-based programs for department functions.
- Basic keyboarding skills are desirable, but not required, for using Microsoft Office applications.
- Must have access to reliable transportation for traveling between multiple work sites.

- Evaluates patients based on departmental standards.
- Conducts and modifies evaluations based on patient symptoms, activity level, and medical status, establishing individualized goals.
- Treats patients with therapeutic exercises, such as strength, endurance, coordination, and ROM (Range of Motion).
- Administers physical agents and manual therapeutic techniques to relieve pain and achieve established goals.
- Utilizes effective techniques to normalize motor activity and learning.
- Educates patients and families in home exercise programs and functional activities.
- Determines when a patient has achieved maximal benefit from treatment and recommends discharge if appropriate.
- Documents patient information according to insurance guidelines and adheres to department policies.
- Fosters interdepartmental communication and communicates with referring physicians regarding patient care.
- Accurately fills out and submits charges daily.
- Adheres to the professional code of ethics established by the APTA and the facility at all times.
- Performs duties with proper body mechanics and safety precautions to prevent injuries.
- Supervises affiliated students and participates in continuing education courses to improve treatment techniques.
