Job Description:
The primary responsibility of the Speech Language Pathologist is to evaluate patients and develop effective treatment plans to improve or restore their speech and language functions. This includes conducting thorough evaluations, establishing measurable goals, and implementing appropriate therapeutic techniques. Additionally, the Speech Language Pathologist participates in an interdisciplinary approach, working with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate patients based on departmental standards.
- Conduct and modify evaluations based on patient symptoms, activity level, and medical status.
- Treat patients with appropriate therapeutic techniques.
- Administer physical agents (modalities) and manual therapeutic technique to attain established goals.
- Utilize effective techniques to assist in normalizing speech and language activity.
- Educate patients/families in home exercise programs and/or functional activities.
- Determine when a patient has achieved maximal benefit from treatment and recommend discharge if appropriate.
- Document patient information in accordance with insurance guidelines and adhere to department policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals and referring physicians regarding patient care.
- Accurately fill out and submit charges daily.
- Adhere to professional code of ethics established by ASHA and the facility.
- Perform duties with proper body mechanics and safety precautions.
- Supervise affiliated students and participate in clinical education.
- Attend continuing education courses to improve treatment techniques.
- Participate in departmental in-services and community education events.
Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you must possess strong English communication skills, both verbal and written. You should have basic personal computer skills, including proficiency in Windows-based programs such as Word, Outlook, and Excel. A graduate degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited program is required, along with a current Connecticut license and eligibility for certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
