Job Title: Speech Pathologist
Summary:
As a Speech Pathologist at ECHN, I provide comprehensive evaluations and treatments to improve or restore patients' speech and language functions. I collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for patient care and community education while mentoring students in clinical settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluates patients based on departmental standards
- Conducts and modifies evaluations based on the patient's symptoms, level of activity, and medical status
- Treats patients with appropriate and acceptable therapeutic techniques
- Administers physical agents (modalities) and manual therapeutic techniques to attain established goals
- Utilizes effective techniques to assist in normalizing speech and language activity
- Educates patients/families in home exercise programs and/or functional activities to maximize independent functional activity
- Determines when a patient has achieved maximal benefit from treatment and recommends discharge if appropriate
- Documents patient information in accordance with insurance guidelines and adheres to departmental policies and procedures
- Seeks and fosters interdepartmental communication and communication with referring physicians regarding patient care
- Accurately and consistently fills out and submits charges daily
- Adheres to professional code of ethics established by ASHA and facility at all times
- Performs all duties with proper body mechanics and safety to prevent injuries
- Supervises affiliated students
- Participates in continuing education courses and departmental inservices
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited program of Speech Language Pathology with a minimum of a M.S.
- Holds current Connecticut license for Speech Language Pathology
- Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association
- Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written
- Basic personal computer skills in the use of Windows-based programs such as Word, Outlook, and Excel
- Access to reliable transportation to travel between multiple work sites
