What are the responsibilities and job description for the DSP (Direct Support Professional) position at ECHO RESIDENTIAL SUPPORT, Inc.?
Direct Care Staff-To empower, guide, educate, and assist developmentally disabled individuals living in the community to learn those skills which allow them to develop to their fullest potential.
Environment: Primary - Individual residences, rural and urban; may include exposure to cigarette smoke and common household pets. Secondary - Community/social events, Community Services, Retail establishments, medical offices/facilities.
Physical Demands: Physical activity related to normal household chores; Physical assistance with mobility and transfers may be required according to specific individual's needs to include: lifting, crouching, bending, pushing and periods of standing, sitting or driving in excess of 30 minutes.
Equipment: Operation of appliances related to normal household environment; Adaptive equipment as required, including but not limited to: wheelchairs, electric lifts, safety/protective gear, physical braces/ supports and communication devices.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED
- Valid Ohio Drivers' license
- Dependable transportation with current automobile liability insurance
- Current CPR and First Aid Certifications
- Submit to and Pass criminal background check
- Successful completion of employer provided training
Skills and Aptitudes: Learn practices of supported living services for individuals with developmental disabilities, including:
- Understanding and implementing services according to an established support plan
- Consistently monitoring and accurately documenting services and activities
- Communicating with verbal and non-verbal individuals
- Responding supportively and empathetically to individuals with a variety of developmental disabilities from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Maintaining a calm, supportive demeanor in crisis situations
Additional Responsibilities;
- Complete support documentation such as witness statements and data/mileage sheets within stated time frames as needed..
- Assist individuals in reporting maintenance problems to their landlord and making contact with a county case manager, guardians, and significant others
- Attend staff meetings, in-services, ISP meetings, and other meetings as assigned by the Residential Coordinator
- Perform all duties as assigned by the Residential Coordinator
