Position Overview
As an Impact Investing Intern, you will have the unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that align financial success with positive environmental outcomes. This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in impact investing, allowing you to develop skills in financial analysis, due diligence, and project management while working directly with the Managing Director. The intern will have first-hand experience sourcing deals and selecting appropriate investments with supporting quantitative and qualitative analysis.

Echo River is among the few investors with a narrow specialty in smart water technology solving global water challenges for human health, environment, and climate resilience. The Managing Director, Peter Yolles, has over 30 years of experience in the water and startup space. As Echo River continues to expand our impact portfolio, we are seeking a motivated and dedicated Impact Investing Intern to join our team over the summer.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sourcing: Identify potential investment opportunities by researching relevant markets and sectors, staying abreast of industry trends, and networking with key stakeholders.
2. Selecting: Assist in evaluating prospective investments by conducting company assessments, meeting with company teams, and assessing potential risks and opportunities associated with the investment
3. Diligence: Assist in the due diligence process for prospective investments, researching and analyzing relevant information, conducting financial analysis to assess their alignment with impact goals and financial viability.
4. Impact Measurement: Support the implementation of the impact measurement framework of the fund to assess the environmental performance and impact metrics of portfolio companies.
5. Market Research: Stay informed about industry trends, impact investment best practices, and emerging opportunities, providing valuable insights to the team. Support Echo River's fundraising process by identifying and building relationships with prospective LPs.
6. Report Preparation: Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, showcasing the impact and financial performance of our investment portfolio.
7. Administrative Support: Provide administrative support as needed, including scheduling meetings, maintaining organized project files, generating and curating engaging social media content with a particular emphasis on LinkedIn, and other tasks to ensure smooth operations.
Qualifications:
● Currently enrolled in a Master's program in environmental management and engineering, finance, business, or a related field.
● Specialization in Water or Climate Science or Engineering, or past related experiences would be a strong plus.
● Strong analytical skills with proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis.
● Passion for impact investing and sustainable finance principles.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with expert fluency in English.
● Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a self-starter in a fast-paced environment.
● Familiarity with Airtable is a plus.
Duration: This summer internship is a 3-month commitment spanning from mid-May to mid-August 2024. Exact start and end dates will be determined based on the availability of the selected candidate.
Location: This internship is remote. While the intern will work remotely, occasional in-person meetings with Peter, based in San Francisco, may be scheduled based on mutual availability and if the intern is in the area. Weekly 1:1 meetings and daily electronic communications are expected.
