EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Accountant in our Hughes Network Systems division. This position will be located in our Germantown, MD office.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare recurring and period-end journal entries, reconciliations.
- Review trial balances monthly to identify unusual items, variances or trends, which impact the consolidated results.
- Recommend control improvements in areas of responsibility and work on projects to fix any control gaps or aid in efficiencies.
- Oversee and complete annual updates to overhead rates, reviews rates for reasonableness, and update activity-based rates liaising with finance and payroll.
- Ensure accounting transactions are recorded in accordance with U.S. GAAP and the company’s policies.
- Partner with finance and business counterparts to support the business and help with their accounting needs.
- Other duties as assigned from time to time.
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- 5 years of related accounting experience including significant exposure to cost accounting principles and revenue recognition
- 3 years working with large global ERP systems
- CPA/CMA (or international equivalent or in progress).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in accounting.
- Big Four experience.
- Experience in complex, high-performing companies of size and scope, with the ability to draw upon best-in-class policies, processes, and procedures.
- Demonstrates full-cycle accounting and analytical skills and enjoys working in a challenging and fast-paced environment.
- Advanced SAP user (both Finance and Controlling).
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and vlook-ups.
- Proven experience in a similar role at a large company involved in the manufacture of products.
- Familiarity with cost accounting standards and Government contract compliance.
- Self-directed with ability to research complex issues, work independently, and manage multiple projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A proven ability to be decisive, resolve issues, and deliver on commitments and deadlines.
Will be eligible for discretionary bonus, with funding based on company performance.
The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level and competencies. Candidates need to successfully complete a pre-employment screen, which may include a drug test and DMV check.

Compensation Range
Annual Salary: $79,000.00 - $99,000.00
