Job Description

Eckerd College is currently seeking candidates for the position of Associate Bursar. This opportunity entails joining our Accounting and Finance team, situated at our waterfront property along the picturesque Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida. In this role, you will assist with the administration and management of all functions in the Bursar’s Office.

As Associate Bursar, you will work closely with the Bursar to provide leadership and oversight to the Office of the Bursar staff. You will ensure that high quality customer service is provided to students, colleagues and all outside visitors. The Associate Bursar is responsible for performing a range of complex functions under the general supervision of the Bursar.

The Associate Bursar demonstrates a knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and possesses the ability to pay close attention to detail and keep accurate records. Excellent and effective customer service, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills is key to success in this position. The incumbent must have the ability to function independently and communicate effectively with multiple offices and individuals, and to synchronize accounting practices and information systems.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with all daily functions of the Bursar’s office that includes cashiering, collections of student and business A / R, billing, refunds, and miscellaneous transactions.

Supervises responses and resolution of requests and inquiries from students, parents, faculty, and staff regarding student accounts.

Provides counseling and guidance to various constituents regarding policy and makes policy and operational recommendations to the Bursar to improve business processes and customer service outcomes.

Participates in the reconciliation of the Bursar’s Office records with the Business Office to ensure accurate and complete billing, receipts, disbursements, and outstanding receivable records.

Manages the reconciliation and daily execution of the refund process and ACH payments.

Manages the preparation of the journal entry forms, receipt transmittal vouchers, cash, and check bank deposits.

Assist with maintaining internal controls related to protecting revenue and cash.

Assist with the process and issuance of the 1098-T tax form reviewing and reconciling amounts reported, following the IRS regulation with collecting social security numbers and addresses for filing 1098-T form.

Participate in various events involving new student orientation, semester check-in and events held with cash receipt processes.

Acts as a change agent to implement assigned initiatives from the Bursar.

Assumes full responsibility for the department in the absence of the Bursar.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or related; 2-4 years of relevant experience. The equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
