What are the responsibilities and job description for the Biology Laboratory and Stockroom Technician position at Eckerd College?
In this position, you will provide professional technical and administrative support for the Biology discipline in preparing solutions, media and organisms for teaching labs. This includes maintaining cultures of live organisms; maintaining inventories of chemicals, media, disposable tubes, pipettes and plates, gloves for teaching and research; and coordinating the purchase and delivery of the same.
The incumbent must possess knowledge of applicable OSHA safety regulations and other regulations concerning safety and handling hazardous waste as well as knowledge and skill in working with chemicals, making solutions, and other practical science skills. This position is frequently exposed to chemicals and biohazards and required to handle them using proper PPE.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position.

Key Responsibilities
Set up lab benches for each day's lab; prepare culture media and reagents for use in the biology teaching labs: cell biology, microbiology, genetics, physiology, biodiversity I and II.
Maintain biology stockroom in a clean and orderly fashion.
Assist in the purchase and maintenance of inventories of chemicals, gases, glassware, minor instrumentation and other supplies as needed for the biology discipline.
Schedule and supervise student work scholars and assistants in tasks that include preparation for lab courses, washing glassware, refilling paper towel dispensers, maintaining water dispensing equipment, maintaining stockroom, and general cleaning.
Set up instruments for daily laboratory use; minor instrument maintenance and repair (e.g., bulb or fuse replacement). Instruct students in the use of selected instruments.
Assist in the oversight of laboratory safety
Assist Campus Safety & Security and Facilities in the event of laboratory waste storage problems, during and after work hours.
Assist in disaster preparations for hurricane readiness or other adverse events that could cause long term damage or closure to the campus.
Qualifications
B.S. or B.A. degree in Biology or three (3) years of experience in laboratory prep.
