Reports to the OA/CTS Manager and is a salaried, exempt position. Responsible for facilitating the development and implementation of the School to Career/Work Based Learning program, as well as counseling students in all aspects of center life, e.g. personal and social development, vocational and educational training. Demonstrates on-going commitment to preparing young people for the workforce by modeling, mentoring, and monitoring excellence in the eight Career Success Standards of:  workplace relations and ethics; information management; communications; multicultural awareness; personal growth and development; career and personal planning; interpersonal skills and independent living.  

Annual Salary Range: $40,000 to $44,700

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates and abides by Odle Core Values and operating principles. 
  • Escorts potential employers on center tours; serves as guest speaker on and off center to promote the School to Career program.
  • Works with campus staff, employers, organized labor, and the community to establish and maintain Work-Based Learning site MOUs and agreements that meet the needs of students. 
  • Monitors students daily progress at WBL sites. 
  • Facilitates meetings and activities to bring together the appropriate persons, including employers, instructors, students, and center staff to ensure the success of the School to Career/Work-Based Learning program. 
  • Generates work site opportunities that best match the training capabilities and needs of trainees with employers’ requirements.
  • Serves as liaison with both the Career Technical Training and Career Transition Services departments in facilitating the coordination of the campuses Work-Based Learning program. 
  • Visits established work sites at least bi-monthly to cultivate work site relationships. Coordinate, periodically, guest speakers in career training classrooms to allow the vocational instructors to visit work sites and trainees as required for the success of the Work-Based Learning program. This could include Job Corps graduates, local employer partners or workforce/one-stop allies. Submits monthly WBL activity report.   
  • Monitors students’ progress, performance, and attendance for off-center trades.
  • Obtains Training Achievement Records and Progress and Performance Reports from Off-center training sites.
  • Monitors each class on a weekly basis, conferring with instructors, counselors, and administrators as appropriate.
  • Promotes awareness of ACT/OTP program offerings by publishing relevant items in the dorm agenda and maximizing enrollment
  • Schedules students meeting entry requirements into training.
  • Delivers presentations during student orientation.
  • Assists in the screening, registration, and enrollment of students into the ACT/OTP programs.
  • Coordinates Occupational Exploration Program tours.
  • Provides weekly and monthly slot utilization reports.
  • Confers with other staff to increase adaptation to ACT/OTP training programs.
  • Actively collaborates with all other departments to best meet the needs of each student.
  • Assesses and evaluates continuously those students assigned to them on both formal and informal levels.
  • Provide assistance to students in continuing their education or entering into additional training; and in connecting with community services necessary for successful transition from school to work.
  • Documents required contact counseling sessions for all students’ minors and one counseling session for adult students.
  • ESP and PCDP reviews are conducted. Information is reviewed and updated as needed. This review is documented in accordance with established timeframes in the PRH.
  • Assists students in setting short and long-term goals, identifying strengths and career challenges and resolution of personal issues affecting career readiness.
  • Submits written student reports/evaluations as needed to outside agencies, referrals to Mental Health Consultant, Review Boards, or at the Center Director’s request.
  • Clearly communicates and consistently models appropriate CSS and employability skills including personal responsibility and computer fluency. 
  • Maintains accountability of staff, students, and property, adheres to safety practices in all areas of responsibility. 
  • Cultivates and maintains a climate on center that is free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn. 
  • Attends required staff training sessions. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, including 15 semester hours of Social Sciences or related area. One-year experience in a counseling capacity or related field.
  • Job Corps experience preferred.
  • Valid State driver’s license in the state of employment with acceptable driving record.

 Additional Requirements: 

Good understanding of the local community and employer base. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.  Excellent organizational skills.  Must be able to effectively communicate with and relate to trainee base. Position requires an ability to operate office equipment. In addition, an individual must be able to interact with team members and maintain an effective working relationship with all facility staff and departments.
