Description:
This position is an associate level technical position. The Network Engineer will be a hands on the keyboard team member of the team that does communications engineering across the City with a specific focus on network and communication platforms.
The Network Engineer is responsible for the City s multiple communications platforms to include core, LAN and WAN networking, ISP management, VoIP technologies, WiFi management, fiber runs, firewall management, network infrastructure asset management, network communications vendor management, network hardware/software and IT customer service. The Network Engineer will be a resident POC/SME per communication infrastructure platforms and network communications engineering efforts as efforts matriculate from conceptual phase through implementation phase while also supporting current operations. This position supports the coordination of and delivery of IT networking communications engineering and operational support services to include network engineering services, VoIP technology services, WiFi technology services, network operational issues, asset inventories, requests for new network communication services and improvements in IT workflow processes. There may be occasional lifting up to 35 pounds including activities such as moving files and small equipment. This is a hands-on the keyboard/technical position. There may be on-call activities in this role.
The Network Engineer will have experience with large enterprise network communication platforms to include core, WAN and LAN networking services, VoIP and WiFi infrastructure, ISP management, network vendor management, fiber layouts and IT operational support within the network communications arena.
The Network Engineer will have the following minimal qualifications:
-2 to 4 years experience relating to network communications engineering of large enterprise systems with a specialty in at least two of the following arenas: core, LAN and WAN support, ISP engagement, VoIP and WiFi infrastructure, networking infrastructure, Firewall management, and fiber connections.
-2 to 4 years experience of IT operations technical support services.
-2 to 4 years experience of network engineering applications and the life-cycle management with a demonstrated ability and skill to analyze, evaluate, and resolve complex problems.
-Strong experience with the following technologies:
Layer 2 switching
Routers and Routing methodologies
Wireless Communications
VoIP systems
Firewalls
ISP connections and management
Fiber connections
-1 to 3 years experience within a complex, multi-vendor, matrixed IT environment.
-1 to 3 years experience of IT cross-functional awareness and how IT platforms support functional business needs.
-3 to 5 years experience bringing new infrastructure platforms to fruition from concept to implementation.
-College Degree in IT field and 4 years overall IT experience, or 8 years of overall IT experience without.
-Relevant industry certifications preferred.
