The Safety Manager is responsible for growing the safety culture of Eclipse by implementing and communicating safety strategies and providing education and training processes and programming. The Safety Manager will have experience in the construction industry, particularly heavy civil, and consult with operational leadership and field management to ensure the safety and health of all employees.
Responsibilities
- Research, develop and implement safety and health programs in areas such as safe behavior, positive reinforcement, accident prevention and investigation, motor vehicle safety, confined space, job safety, job auditing, and other OSHA and company mandated programs.
- Grow a culture of safety throughout the organization that includes policy and procedure development, partnering with operations on risk mitigation strategies, and promotion of employee engagement in the advancement of a positive safety environment.
- Keep the organization current on laws and best practices related to safety via newsletters, informational meetings, and proactive safety initiatives.
- Maintain compliance by scheduling and facilitating mandated training. Implement a tracking system for applicable reporting.
- Complete all OSHA reporting.
- Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations
- Partner with Human Resources on the administration of Worker’s Compensation claims and serve as Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for OSHA related issues. Oversee Worker’s Compensation claims by conducting thorough and complete claims investigations working with investigators, employees, adjustors and/or experts as needed.
- Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions
- Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
- Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
- Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics
- Regular travel to job sites.
- Other duties assigned.
Skills
- Proven experience as safety manager
- Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines
- Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies
- Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
- Excellent organizational and motivational skills
- Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
- Be a self-directed manager with active participation and visibility on multiple construction sites
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
- BSc/BA in safety management or relevant field is preferred
Requirements
- Valid qualification in occupational health and safety
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety or other related field preferred; will substitute for experience
- 5 years’ experience in a Safety Manager position in the construction industry
- Successful completion of OSHA course 510 preferred/Minimum OSHA 30 Construction
- Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record
- Travel will be required
