Job Description
Sign Production / Installer
Summary/Scope of Role:
- The production specialist must be skilled in installing signs of all types as well as
proficient in all aspects of the physical construction of signs. Must be able to lift 50
pounds or more.
- Responsible for assembling signs from cut vinyl (cut vinyl output and/or Edge output),
wide format full color printouts (aqueous and/or solvent prints) and various substrates
(Knowledge of substrates both vinyl and ridged stock).
- Sign assembly includes preparing substrates and applying vinyl according to written
instruction on a traveler. This includes operating a stand or panel saw and metal shear.
- Mount and/or laminate printed graphics, responsible for operating and setting up a
laminator for over-laminating, encapsulation, or mounting of printed products.
- Proofread, conduct quality assurance, and follow best practices to ensure the highest
quality product for customers.
- Operate a Xenatech engraver to produce tags (will be trained if needed)
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform sign installations, as necessary.
- Follow a layout to place computer-generated vinyl or full color graphic image(s) on a
predetermined substrate.
- Accurately prepare substrates for vinyl application. This may include cutting, painting,
laminating, cleaning, and maintaining the substrate vinyl.
- Weed excess vinyl from computer cut weeding techniques varying with the size, type of
vinyl and complexity of the image. Know when and how to use each technique.
- Perform quality assurance measures pre- and post-construction by accurately reading
and interpreting a Job Traveler and then proofing of errors or unacceptable standards of
workmanship (bubbles, ragged edges, loose seams).
- Perform finishing operations such as laminating, encapsulating, and/or mounting.
- Thread laminating or encapsulating material into machine, set temperature, pressure,
and side guides for proper feeding of machines.
- Operate the laminator maintaining proper fit and settings, and feed material into
laminator.
- Communicate with other employees and customers in a calm and professional manner,
express self verbally and listen well. Work unsupervised when needed.
- Being skilled in wrapping vehicles with vinyl is a plus.
- Report inventory levels and stock to be ordered.
- Help unload and store raw materials: clean as needed and maintain storage.
- Maintain production rate consistency.
Work on different projects
- Perform routine machine maintenance and minor repairs when necessary.
- Keep the production area neat, clean, and organized.
- Understand the order process well enough to take an order if necessary.
- Clean and maintain saws and other tools as necessary.
Education/Experience Requirements:
Any combination of education, training or general experience that provides the required skill and
knowledge base sufficient for job performance. This could include:
- Sufficient formal or informal education to assure the ability to use simple math (adding,
subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers and fractions, as well as converting
fractions to decimals and vice versa).
- Previous experience as a sign maker.
- Comply with and meet all pre-employment requisites, including but not limited to criminal
background check prior to start date, and pre-employment random drug testing in
accordance with Company policy for the duration of employment.
