I. Position Description
The purpose of this position is to keep the furnace operating in a safe, environmentally sound, and productive manner.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee occasionally works in high precarious places, in outside weather conditions. He works with conditions and materials that if not managed properly could react explosively. He is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Maintain his work area ensuring that his workplace is orderly and clean following our DROSS (5 S) requirements.
- Maintains focus with furnace operation and reports to Chief Operator or Supervisor any discrepancy discovered.
- Responsible for furnace operation; ensures that furnace operation is within current set parameters.
- Complies with all environmental, health, safety, and housekeeping programs.
- Conducts Furnace refractory repairs and he is fully involved with Furnace refractory replacement (rebuilds).
- Fills in all 5 positions required at the Furnace department. (Payloader driver, Slag side, lead side, EAF operation and relieves Chief Operator as needed).
- Operator performs the duties required tapping lead from the Reverb Furnace when assigned to the lead side operator. He relieves the Chief operator for breaks.
- Operator performs the duties required to maintain slag flowing out of both Furnaces when assigned as slag side operator. Maintains slag caster clean and inspects for failing parts of equipment.
- Operator performs the duties required to maintain the Reverb furnace fed, coke and reagents for the EAF. The Payloader driver requires that operators maintain all feedable material separated as it is produced when assigned as Payloader driver.
- Operator performs the duties required at the EAF and interprets slag analysis results. He is also required to manage the slag launder and tap lead out of the lead well as needed.
- Complies with all environmental, health, safety, and housekeeping programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Be able to verbally communicate and understand English. Able to read and write English.
- Good interpersonal communication skills; written and verbal.
- Meet qualifications for this position as described in the current collective bargaining unit agreement.
- Able to operate Reverb and Electric arc Furnaces efficiently.
- Able to operate heavy equipment, including forklifts, Payloaders and over-head cranes.
- Willingness to be a Furnace Team member. Able to work with others.

- Must possess and maintain an exemplary Safety record.
- He must be actively participant of Safety programs such as Behavioral Based Safety, Confined Space rescue team and mentoring evaluations.
- Involvement in Journey to Excellence training, (Lean manufacturing Rules and Principles)
- Core group member and participant.
- Attend and graduate from Safety College classes provided by our company.
- Attend and graduate from Environmental College classes provided by our company.
