Principal Solution Architect
Ecolab is seeking Principal Solution Architect who will be a key member of the Digital Delivery organization located in Ecolab’s Global Headquarters in St. Paul, MN or alternately in Naperville, IL. This candidate will be working closely with developers, technical leads, enterprise architects and product owners to deliver value through scalable and sustainable solutions. A candidate with experience in integrating across multiple SaaS solutions and custom built internal systems and platforms will be successful in this role.
We are looking for someone passionate about software development in the cloud and continuously learning and expanding their skillsets, especially through open source communities. Someone who is focused on apply their technical skills to deliver solutions and improving customer experience, a strong problem solver that enjoys complex situations and can be creative when coming up with solutions. Someone who is not afraid to raise concerns or risks and has the ability to establish shared vision across the company by building consensus on priorities leading to product execution.

Position Details:
- Location: This position can sit in either St. Paul, MN or Naperville, IL
- Travel: Up to 10% of the time

What you will do:
- Work with product owners to understand the customer needs and value proposition of a new product, shaping potential solutions that align with enterprise standards.
- Granulize the solution into a set of product features that can be delivered incrementally; define the High-Level Baseline Architecture that supports the product feature delivery over time and estimate any associated operating expenses.
- Work with team members in all stages of a product to define the design details of various technical domains, such as integration, application development, cloud services, deliver the stories within the sprint, hands-on development, especially in the early phases of the project, to set the development pattern and standards for the project.
- Communicate and collaborate with key stakeholders on application design, DevOps implementation, development status, and roll-out success metrics.
- Identify and mitigate risks that make up the overall solution
- Given a business objective, research, provide comparisons of multiple approaches and make recommendations, including implementation and operational cost analysis
- Perform long range system planning based on product roadmap, business needs, dependencies, cost, and alternative options
- Lead exploration of new technologies and approaches beyond what’s already established
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent
- 10 years of experience as a software engineer, with 3 years or more of experience designing the application architecture in product development space
- 5 years of hands-on experience in developing functions, services and/or microservices using Microsoft technology stack; hands-on experience using ORM frameworks
- 2 years of experience using microservices and asynchronous messaging architecture, Domain Driven Design experience a plus
- 2 years of experience in API design, development, and OAuth2 API security; 2 years of exposing and/or consuming APIs through an API Gateway
- 3 years of experience in monitoring and optimizing application operation
- Experience utilizing messaging middleware such as Kafka, Event Hub, etc.
- Experience working with Azure PaaS such as AKS, App Service, Functions or equivalent
- Experience managing day-to-day technical and design direction, creating user stories and requirements for software development
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 years of hands-on experience in Frontend development using Angular, React, Blazor, or Vue or 3 years of Mobile development using Xamarin, MAUI, Cordova; or native Android/IOS development
- 2 years of experience using Azure Data Factory or its predecessors (SSIS), or its equivalent tech stack
- 5 years of hands-on experience in RDBMS
- Operational experience in managing enterprise API gateway
- 2 years hands-on experience utilizing AKS and DevOps chain for AKS
- Experience working with Scrum teams in all phases of product development including CI/CD implementation from scratch using ADO pipeline or GitHub Actions
- Experience managing or working with global development teams
- Demonstrates a strong sense of urgency, problem solver who takes initiative
- Exposure to AI/ML will be considered as a differentiator
- Relevant Professional Certifications will be preferred
