About the Role
The Program Coordinator II - Active Transportation supports the delivery of sustainable transportation education programs. Specifically, this position focuses on biking and pedestrian safety for audiences of diverse ages and backgrounds.
What you'll be doing
Student Engagement and Education
- Engaging students during in-class presentations and assemblies.
- Managing and conducting on-bike safety training on school premises.
- Leading walking field trips in the school neighborhood.
- Setting up and dismantle obstacle courses for training.
- Fostering a positive learning environment for children.
- Contributing to student safety in their neighborhoods.
Coordination of Program Delivery and Administration
- Scheduling, coordinating, and tracking data related to the programs.
- Spending time in the office for administrative tasks and fieldwork at schools and the general community.
- Evaluating student assessments before and after presentations.
- Ensuring accurate timesheet hour allocation across cost centers.
- Supporting grant contract management as required (e.g. deliverable tracking, photo/video documentation).
- Tracking and reporting program data accurately and according to deadlines.
Event Coordination and Execution
- Collaborating with school principals, teachers, CBOs, and staff to schedule events.
- Organizing and conducting events related to education, encouragement, and community engagement.
- Preparing and assembling necessary materials, including paperwork, bicycles, helmets, and safety equipment.
- Providing in-field support and guidance to program volunteers, student intern onboarding, training, coordination, and management, as required.
Community Interaction
- Fostering a positive learning environment for community members.
- Contributing to student safety in their neighborhoods.
What We're Looking For
- A minimum of 2 years' youth education and community outreach experience
- Substantive public speaking experience
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be qualifying
Preferred Qualifications
- College degree in a field related to education or active transportation
- Fluent in Spanish and English with a demonstrated ability to clearly and professionally communicate
- Experience with project management
- Experience working in a non-profit setting
- Interest in promoting a clean environment and alternative transportation
Knowledge and Skills
- Demonstrated ability to effectively engage audiences
- Excellent classroom management skills with youth to maintain an effective learning environment
- Self-motivated, energetic, helpful and positive attitude
- Quick learner to be able to excel at multitude of demanding assignments
- Experience working in office setting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; strong Word and Excel skills
- Excellent coordination, prioritization, and organizational skills
- Excellent time management skills
- Valid California Class C Driver's license, a reliable personal vehicle available for work purposes and current automobile insurance
Work Environment

This position is 40-hours per week and requires availability between 6am and 4pm on weekdays for scheduled events during the school day as well as occasional weekend or evening events.
This position is a member of the Watsonville team, however, is also be expected to periodically support the teams based out of Santa Cruz and Salinas on an as-needed basis.
The work environment for this position is a mixture of an office setting and working out in the field (at schools and community events). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk and hear, and use a computer keyboard and monitor.
Preparation for training events involves multiple trips to the storage unit in the basement to load and unload supplies into the agency trailer, including bicycles, boxes of helmets, and other supplies. The employee must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly.
