What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automation and Controls Engineer position at Ecore International?
We are a rapidly expanding organization looking for a new Automation & Controls Engineer. You will have companywide responsibility for keeping existing machinery up-to-date and aligned with our Obsolescence Mitigation Plan. This will involve tracking and management of sensors, drives and other critical electrical components along with programming updates and changes to all PLC’s & HMI’s.
Core Contributions:
Lead and maintain Ecore’s Machine Obsolescence Mitigation Plan to ensure reliability.
Identify continuous improvement opportunities to equipment systems (i.e. sensors, automation and controls, actuators, UI, etc).
Perform both preventive and corrective maintenance on control systems and drives.
Create and optimize preventive maintenance (PM) and predictive maintenance (PdM) programs based on data-driven analysis to enhance equipment reliability.
Lead automation projects, including the design, installation, and modification of systems.
Evaluate and implement upgrades to improve reliability and efficiency.
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Maintenance, Production, Quality, and IT to support Operations.
Train Maintenance Technicians and Operators on system updates and changes. Ensure all systems and processes meet OSHA and other relevant regulatory requirements.
Develop and maintain detailed documentation of projects, system changes, and troubleshooting procedures.
Contribute to regular reporting on system performance and project status.
Provide technical leadership and guidance to maintenance teams, ensuring best practices in reliability and maintenance engineering are applied consistently.
Stay updated on the latest automation technologies, and standards, and integrate them into the organization's practices.
Designing, creating, updating & maintaining equipment electrical schematics.
Configuration and programming of VFDs, PLCs and HMIs.
Standardize and document solutions across all Ecore sites.
Implement and maintain Ecore’s equipment monitoring systems to ensure the stability and reliability of automated processes, proactively addressing any issues that may arise.
Approximately 10% travel.
Essential Experiences:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related technical field
5 years of experience in automation, electrical engineering, or mechatronics within a manufacturing or industrial environment
Proficiency with Allen-Bradley, ABB, Siemens and Yaskawa
Proficiency in AutoCAD
Proficiency with C , Python and Visual Basic to allow the design, development, and implementation of various software applications using these languages across different domains
Knowledge of network topology
Experience writing API’s preferred
NEC (NFPA 70) certification preferred
CAP (ISA) certification preferred
Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams
Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills, with experience in using automation software and statistical tools
