Your Mission:
The Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of safety for Ecotone’s two regional offices and field sites. This includes ensuring compliance with safety standards, managing safety programs, coordinating training, and maintaining safety supplies. This role involves a significant amount of field leadership and collaboration with key stakeholders to maintain a safe work environment.
Outcomes You Will Deliver:
1. Field Safety Management
- Serve as the Safety Manager for all self-perform work, including field operations, vehicle safety, and shop/facility safety.
- Provide leadership and oversight for working crews, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
- Conduct regular site visits and safety audits to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Oversee vehicle and equipment safety programs.
2. Safety Program Development
- Collaborate with the COO and Construction Group Lead to finalize and implement the Ecotone Safety Program.
- Develop and maintain safety programs and standards, including certification and training programs.
- Manage crew certification and training, ensuring compliance with OSHA construction requirements and other relevant safety standards (e.g., CPR/First Aid, equipment operator certifications).
- Draft and maintain site-specific safety plans, including hazard analyses, using Microsoft Word.
- Budget and coordinate specialized training, such as chainsaw safety training.
- Maintain and regularly update the written Safety Program manual.
- Assist with the roll-out of new safety programs, including conducting sessions and ensuring field employee sign-off.
3. Safety Certifications & Training
- Keep current on required safety certifications and ensure all necessary training sessions are scheduled and completed.
- Manage and book training sessions in conjunction with the Construction Group Lead.
- Key certifications include:
- OSHA 30 or equivalent
- CPR / First Aid
- Driver Safety Training
4. Safety Supplies Management
- Ensure the company is stocked with necessary safety items, including:
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- First Aid Kits and Fire Extinguishers
- Portable defibrillators (AEDs)
- Insect and poison ivy medication and prevention sprays
- Hard hats, high-visibility t-shirts, gloves, protective eyewear, and tick/bug spray
5. Reporting & Collaboration
- Report directly to the COO.
- Participate in monthly review meetings with the COO and Construction Group Lead.
- Work closely with the COO, Construction Group Lead, and field team leaders and crews to develop and improve safety initiatives.
6. Leading Indicator Tasks & Programs
- Coordinate and oversee key safety programs, including:
- Weekly Safe Talks (Safety Meetings)
- PPE stocking and inspection programs
- Emergency Action Plans and Job Hazard Development programs (to be developed)
- Conduct site visits and safety self-audits, requiring travel to job sites and the ability to walk on uneven terrain in various weather conditions.
7. Lagging Indicator Tasks & Data Collection
- Manage incident reports in collaboration with HR.
- Verify and publish the OSHA 300 Log at the end of each year, working with HR and Finance.
- Respond to employee safety concerns and manage follow-up actions.
- Enforce the Safety Program on job sites, ensuring compliance with established standards.
Who You Are:
- Experience in safety management, particularly in construction or ecological restoration environments.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety program development.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage and influence and communicate effectively with field crews.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and basic budgeting.
- Ability to travel to job sites and work in varying outdoor conditions.
- Relevant certifications (OSHA 30, CPR/First Aid) or willingness to obtain them upon hire.
- Must be positive, flexible, and customer-service oriented
- Drug test required
- Valid Driver's License
- Must be at least 18 years old
