Position Overview:
The Instrument and Electrical Maintenance Specialist will manage small projects, guide and instruct maintenance technicians, coordinate contractors and vendors, and coordinate daily maintenance activities to meet production goals. This role will deliver technical focus on the short-term (0-18 months) strategic implementation of plant asset reliability improvements and maintenance work process improvements in the instrumentation and electrical space.
What you will be doing:
- Being a change agent, inspiring efficiency and accountability to the I&E maintenance workforce in the overall execution of day-to-day activities.
- Provide technical assistance to I&E Maintenance Planners and Supervisors for creation of job packages for I&E classes of equipment, i.e. analyzers, flow meters, switchgear, etc.
- Work with Planners/Schedulers/Maintenance Supervisors to establish work processes that will help improve efficiency of the scheduling and execution of daily, weekly, and monthly work orders to improve the management of the backlog – especially of regulatory PMs.
- Performs field audits regarding planning and scheduling effectiveness.
- Assist with Process Safety Management (PSM) compliance as it relates to I&E equipment integrity, engineering design, process safety information, I&E maintenance related procedures and all applicable document retention requirements.
- Routinely reviews backlogs and/or compliance reports to ensure all critical PM/PDMs and I&E inspections are scheduled/completed within established time limits.
- Establish, track, communicate, and improve I&E Maintenance KPIs and metrics that demonstrate the effectiveness of the Maintenance Work Processes
- Be a custodian of the plant’s HSE policies and procedures, particularly as it relates to design, planning, and field execution of work.
- Supports I&E Reliability Engineer with optimization of preventative, predictive, and condition-based maintenance based on failure and inspection history. Coordinates the administration of the program including the control of all data and the specification of the content and frequencies of work and inspections.
- Supports Operations and Maintenance on troubleshooting failures, repairs and evaluating whether the equipment is designed to meet its intended or existing service conditions.
- Provides equipment surveillance to assure performance as expected or impending issues are recognized and acted proactively. Works closely to assure equipment health is monitored and when actions are necessary works closely with Maintenance and Operations to develop effective mitigation actions.
- Recommend (to Operations and Maintenance) items to include in turnaround work. During turnarounds, ascertain conditions of instrumentation and electrical equipment--working with Inspectors and Maintenance personnel. Provide input into post-turnaround reports.
- Oversee Management of Change process pertaining to I&E maintenance activities.
- Leads Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) teams to diagnose equipment failures and drive corrective actions utilizing expertise on failures and repair techniques.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or chemical engineering
- A minimum of 7 plus years of relevant I&E maintenance experience, preferably in a chemical, petrochemical, or refinery production plant with emphasis on planning, scheduling, and executing maintenance activities as a supervisor
- Formal Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) training
- SAP experience
- Understanding of Maintenance/Process Technology to include thermal imaging and temperature measurement, flow measurement, etc.
- Electrical testing and motor current analysis, process parameter monitoring, visual inspection/observations
- Proven analytical troubleshooting/problem-solving skills; able to apply them to assess and improve equipment reliability
- Strong, clear, and concise communication (written and verbal)
- Competent computer skills with working knowledge of MS Office programs and databases
