Position Overview:
The Industrial Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, testing, and commission rotating and or reciprocating mechanical equipment and systems necessary to ensure the safe, efficient, reliable operation of plant equipment.
What you will be doing:
- Installation of rotating and reciprocating equipment and systems
- Reading mechanical drawings or specifications
- Troubleshooting, testing, and repair of equipment
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance tasks as developed by the RCM PM planner
- Removal, repair and reinstallation of various types of rotating equipment, such as pumps, steam turbines, air fans, gear boxes and reciprocating and centrifugal compressors.
- Alignment of equipment trains utilizing Laser alignment equipment.
- Perform rigging of the equipment to be repaired including and understanding of crane hand signals.
- Safe operation of basic shop machine tools, (drill presses, grinders, sand blasters and parts cleaners). Knowledge of the operation of lathes and milling machines a plus.
- Read and apply information from mechanical drawings, prints and equipment specifications.
- Documentation of equipment histories and equipment condition reports.
- In some role(s) they may be required to direct the work of others assigned to the job. She/he may be assigned to work with other Mechanics or Technicians in the area and to serve on cross-functional teams.
Key Skills:
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
- Knowledge of basic math and chemistry.
- Ability and knowledge to use tools in safe and efficient manner as required.
- Strong knowledge of basic chemical manufacturing operations, rotating equipment, boilers, pipefitting, vessels and rigging
Basic Qualifications:
- Ability to read gauges (including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators), diagrams, blue prints, computer printouts, etc.
- Basic computer skills, such as Windows, Outlook, Word.
- At least five years hands on maintenance experience in an industrial environment. In lieu of experience consideration is given to candidates who have completed an industry recognized certification program, apprenticeship, or technical college program in industrial maintenance or related.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Use of alignment tools (reverse dial and Rotolign).
- Knowledge of and compliance with machinery repair standards.
- Basic knowledge of Oxy-fuel heating/cutting, Fastener selection and torque requirements, pump and system performance curves, and Cause Failure analysis.
- Experience with the installation and repair of rotating equipment in an industrial environment.
- Experience in refining/petrochemical, power generation or in heavy industry.
Education:
- Minimum Required: A high school degree or equivalent is required.
- Preferred: Industrial Maintenance degree from a Technical College/Trade School, Journeyman through recognized labor union or job certification (such as ISA, NCCER, etc.) is preferred.
