ECS seeks a full-time Research Associate based in Seattle, WA to support the Northwest Fisheries Science Center (NWFSC)'s project "Conducting surveys of cost and earnings of commercial fishing businesses."
This position will support the NWFSC commercial fisheries economics data collection (EDC) program. At the NWFSC, cost and earnings data are collected from a wide range of entities including catcher vessels, catcher processors, motherships, and shorebased processors. These data provide for detailed cost profiles of all of the groundfish fleets on the West Coast and help inform biennial harvest specification for groundfish, support analysis of Pacific Fishery Management Council actions, and other fisheries management and economics-related research. The position will focus on collecting and analyzing data from the three processing sectors of the fishery. This role provides a unique opportunity to engage with economics researchers inside and outside of the agency, fisheries managers, and the fishing industry to help provide high quality economic information to the public.
Tasks to be Performed:
- Implement web form for revised survey instrument for shorebased processors
- Field the EDC survey for processors, mailing surveys, contacting participants, maintaining records about communications
- Conduct quality checks on the data including identifying and resolving data issues through communication with participants
- Produce a clean and comprehensive dataset including all data elements collected through the EDC program

Salary range: $65,000 - $80,000
