What are the responsibilities and job description for the Stock Assessment Modeler position at ECS Federal, LLC?
ECS is seeking a Stock Assessment Modeler to work in our Remote office.
ECS is seeking qualified candidates to work remotely to support the NOAA Fisheries research and development in key priority areas of stock assessment to support improvement of operational delivery of assessment products. Specifically, the candidate will conduct research focused on producing population projections in stock assessments in a non-stationary environment.
The ideal candidate will be required to accomplish the following key tasks:
- Collaborate with national and regional scientists to assess community needs, strategize, and prioritize research & development.
- Conduct literature reviews to synthesize current practices and research innovative, new and novel approaches to stock assessment modeling and projections
- Conduct research, development, and testing related to population dynamics, quantitative analysis, and/or stock assessment.
- Translate user requests into prioritized requirements.
- Keep abreast of NOAA IT policies to ensure compliance.
- Align project work with tech initiatives for open science and open data.
- Provide briefings, presentations, and reports (e.g., to leadership, national working groups, etc.) on development projects and progress as needed.
- Publish working papers, technical reports, and peer-reviewed papers to document research, development and testing activities.
- Communicate project activities and results to scientific, technical, and general audiences in written and oral formats.
- Master's degree in marine science, population dynamics, quantitative science, or a related field.
- Ability to obtain and retain a Public Trust security clearance.
- Familiarity and experience with NOAA Fisheries' stock assessments, including an understanding of analytical techniques, terminology, and the connection between population modeling and marine resource management.
- Programming familiarity in languages such as R, C , Python, Julia, JavaScript, HTML.
- Knowledge and/or experience with statistical software such as R, AD Model Builder, TMB, MATLAB, or others.
- Project management for complex and technical projects.
- Coordinating diverse project teams to develop, improve and achieve project objectives.
- Communication verbally and in writing (including using visual presentations) to a variety of audiences including technical, scientific, and non-scientific.
- Working with diverse groups of individuals under strict timelines to accomplish goals.
- Working independently with strong time management skills.
- Ability to multitask, maintain flexibility, and travel as needed to relevant workshops and meetings.
- Adaptability to quickly changing priorities.
- Attention to detail.
Req Benefits:
Salary : $65,000 - $80,000
