ECS is seeking a Technical Writer/Editor to work in our Fairfax, VA office.
ECS is seeking talented professionals to join our successful and growing team in building the next-generation Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) Cyber data solution. The CDM Program is the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency's (CISA) dynamic approach to strengthening the cybersecurity of Federal networks and systems through better awareness and visibility into their security posture and cyber threats. ECS is responsible for designing, building, deploying, operating, and maintaining a complete ‘Data Services' solution which includes the collection, normalization, visualization, and sharing of cyber data from more than 100 Federal agencies. The CDM Data Services product is an integrated suite of multiple Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) products, software configuration packages, and custom code which work together to operate as an integrated solution tailored to meet Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requirements.

ECS is looking for a meticulous and creative Technical Writer/Editor in support of the CISA Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) Data Services/BETSIE Program. CDM is a dynamic approach to fortifying the cybersecurity of government networks and systems by providing adequate, risk-based, and cost-effective cybersecurity solutions.
This role will work closely with clients, stakeholders, and other program staff to iteratively create internal and external-facing documentation regarding requirements, capabilities, technical references, and operational guidelines, among others. The ideal candidate should be adept at distilling complex technical concepts into clear and engaging messaging that resonates with target audiences and drives impactful outcomes. This position will be based out of our Fairfax, VA HQ office.
- Writing and/or editing technical documents, reports, user manuals, graphics, briefings, and presentations pertaining to cybersecurity policy, system specifications and/or functional descriptions, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and cybersecurity plans
- Develop outlines and drafts for review and approval ensuring final documents meet applicable requirements
- Research and gather technical or background information for inclusion in the deliverables
- Consult relevant sources, including technical documentation, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and other project personnel to obtain information for document creation
- Proactively review, update, and maintain cybersecurity policy, guidance documents, directives, templates, standards, and procedures to ensure all documentation is current and relevant
- Collaborate on the implementation of standardized processes and deliverables.
- Able to work dynamically and proactively, both independently and as part of a team to achieve program objectives.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- US Citizenship with an ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
- Bachelor's degree in academic area related to Technical Writing
- 3 years of technical writing experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, effective interpersonal skills, strong organization skills, problem solving ability, attention to detail, and strong work ethic that is proactive and self-motivated.
- Ability to work independently while analyzing and applying information gathered from various sources
- Understand technical concepts and be able to explain them in writing
- Experience supporting development of documentation with input from architects/
engineers/SMEs for design documents and other technical documentation - Mastery of plain language writing especially when conveying technical information
- Basic knowledge of Agile processes, release cycles, and Agile methodologies
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft (MS) Word and PowerPoint
- Experience with MS Excel
- Excellent analytical skills
