What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fireproofing/Firestopping Technician position at ECS Group of Companies?
ECS Limited is offering a unique opportunity for a talented Fireproofing Technician to join our Chantilly team and advance in a dynamic work environment. You'll work on a variety of projects performing field observations and inspections, and may also work construction materials performing destructive and non-destructive testing (NDT).
Responsibilities
- Perform destructive and non-destructive testing on construction materials.
- Perform observations of fireproofing/firestopping materials in the field.
- Perform field observations, inspections, and obtain samples for testing on fireproofing materials in accordance with accepted engineering practice.
- Daily communication is required with site contractors, other technicians and project managers.
- Keep project team informed of changing site conditions and/or additional testing requested on project sites.
- May perform inspections in fabrication facilities.
- Basic proficiency with electronic devices including data entry and editing of data and documents required for daily field report submission.
- Maintain the organization of field testing equipment. Notify the supervisor of broken or missing equipment.
- May be involved with calculations, data reduction of test results, drafting, and other administrative duties.
- Attend project meetings as requested.

Required Qualifications
- No experience required.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Must have or be willing to obtain 2 advanced certifications focusing on fireproofing/firestopping per the tech cert policy.
- Position requires carrying 40 - 70 lbs multiple times a day or occasionally lifting 85 lbs to waist height.
- Must have valid driver's license and insurance.
- Must provide suitable transportation for use on job sites - Mileage will be reimbursed.
- Ability to perform work at heights.
- Ability to standardize test equipment.
- Ability to work effectively in teams, with clients, peers, and subordinates, as well as independently.
- Basic knowledge of MS Office.
- Basic math skills.
- Dependable, self-motivated, responsible and detail-oriented.
- Functional ability to read maps, follow directions, and interpret engineering and construction plans.
- Good communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing).
- Limited knowledge of destructive and non-destructive testing principles, applications, and testing standards.
- Limited understanding of the construction practice.
- Proficiency with electronic devices such as phones, tablets, and laptops.
