About ECU Health SurgiCenter
ECU Health SurgiCenter is a freestanding facility with a multi-specialty staff of approximately 200 physicians, all guided by a single goal: to provide quality outpatient surgical care in a patient- and family-centered environment. Performing more than 12,000 outpatient surgical procedures a year, the facility offers a convenient-and clinically excellent-alternative to inpatient hospitalization for a wide range of surgical procedures. Outpatient procedures are performed in eight modern, well-equipped suites by surgeons specializing in dental and oral surgery, orthopedics, gastroenterology, general and plastic surgery, gynecology, podiatry, neurosurgery, urology and more.
Position Summary
Reviews medical record documentation, extracts data, and applies appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes for complex ambulatory surgery to support billing, internal and external reporting, research and regulatory compliance. Complies with the ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting as well as other nationally established rules and regulations for coding assignment
Minimum Requirements
- High school degree or equivalent required.
- Associate degree in Health Information Technology, or a Bachelor degree in Health Information Management preferred.

Credentialed as an RHIT or RHIA or eligible to take the accreditation exam required.
- One to two years of experience with ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding preferred.

Basic computer skills are required.
- Proficient in Word and Excel.
- Encoder computer experience preferred.
