Position Summary

The Antimicrobial Use Coordinator is responsible for coordinating Pharmacy's involvement in all antimicrobial management programs for ECU Health.

Primary functions include coordination of Pharmacy's involvement on the Antimicrobial Use Stewardship Subcommittee, and serves as an educational resource on all antimicrobial matters for Pharmacy.

Responsibilities

Provides daily coverage for the Antimicrobial Management Service, including chart reviews, implementing IV to PO switch and dose optimization protocols when appropriate.

Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner (CPP) status may be utilized to further coordinate and optimize care for patients receiving antimicrobial therapies who are reviewed by the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program.

Coordinates Pharmacy's involvement on the Antimicrobial Utilization Stewardship Subcommittee (AUSS) and prepares and presents monographs and policy recommendation to Pharmacy & Therapeutic Committeeand serves as ad hoc member of Infection Control Committee.

Coordinates medication use evaluations on the empiric, therapeutic and prophylactic use of antimicrobials.

Facilitates multidisciplinary development of evidence-based practice guidelines that incorporate local microbiology and resistance patterns.

Responsible for dissemination of written educational materials on appropriate antimicrobial use.

Calculates and maintains database on antibiotic usage in institution and reports this to Program Director.

Co-editor of Guide to Antimicrobial therapy and work with Information Systems on website. Assists in departmental projects as necessary.

Educates others in the area of antimicrobial management and infectious disease, including but not limited to rotations with pharmacy residents, Infectious Diseases fellows and pharmacy students. Serves as a pharmacy resource on matters pertaining to antimicrobial therapy.

Minimum Requirements

Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)

North Carolina Registered Pharmacist license

PGY-1 in Pharmacy Practice with experience in infectious disease management

PGY-2 in Infectious Diseases or related program

American Heart Association BLS required within 30 days of hire

Preferred Requirements

5 years of progressive experience in antimicrobial stewardship practice and/or medication management quality improvement may be considered as substitute for PGY-2 training

BPS Certification in Infectious Disease (BCIDP), or board eligible

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
