What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Education Specialist position at Ed and Nancy Hanenburg Children's Advocacy Center?
Job Summary: We know that with prevention education, most abuse can be prevented or interrupted. We are looking to add a team member who is passionate about facilitating education and training for adults and children in our community around child abuse prevention and intervention. Specifically, this role would be challenged with identifying and connecting with underreached communities with an immediate focus on Spanish-speaking adults and children. This position would be responsible for helping develop programming in Spanish as well as preparing and leading Child Abuse Prevention: Kids Have Rights youth trainings as directed by the Prevention and Outreach Director in English and Spanish.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge and experience in communications, social work, psychology, education or a related field
- An understanding of child development
- Bilingual/ bicultural strongly preferred
- Reliable transportation for travel throughout Ottawa County to provide training and other direct services
- Flexibility in scheduled work hours (nights, weekends, early morning)
- Computer literacy and working knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet, database and project management software
- Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and human relations skills including effective intercultural communication, and cultural humility
- Ability to collaborate with community partners, including effectiveness building relationships and trust with people from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
Essential Job Functions:
Prevention Education
a) Become a trained facilitator in prevention education trainings for adults and children
1. Lead Child Abuse Prevention: Kids Have Rights (KHR) youth trainings (in both English and Spanish) as directed by the Prevention and Outreach Director
2. Coordinate, promote, and schedule on-line and in person education and prevention programs for adults
b) Work with community partners and facilitate prevention education training including but not limited to law enforcement, faith-based communities, corporations, daycare centers and preschools, school systems, non-profit agencies, cultural organizations, government agencies, parents/ caregivers
c) Identify opportunities and strategize to reach underserved communities with prevention education, specifically targeting Spanish-speaking adults
d) Assist with coordinating activities for Child Abuse Prevention Month
e) Assist Prevention and Community Outreach Director with grant coordination specific to community education
Community Outreach
a) Coordinate and promote public engagement and prevention outreach through active participation in community events, festivals, fairs, and collaborations
b) Oversee the Youth Advocacy Team (group of high school students that provide insight regarding impacts on the lives of youth in Ottawa County)
c) Maintain detailed database on community engagement
d) Collaborate on community outreach with the leadership team
Other Duties
- Foster a sense of belonging and ensure an environment where fellow employees, community partners, and students feel respected and valued for their unique traits and contributions
- Attend regular supervision with the Prevention and Community Outreach Director
- Complete on-going training as required for this position
- Attend staff meetings

Pay: $46,000.00 - $49,000.00 per year
