POSITION: BENEFITS SPECIALIST

REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES
JOB SUMMARY:
The Benefits Specialist provides support and assistance to employees with regards to benefits including medical, dental, prescription, vision, life, disability insurances and state retirement. This position processes the workers’ compensation and unemployment compensation claims. It is responsible for coordinating the wellness activities for employees and generating the necessary information to comply with the requirements of the Affordable Care Act.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate must have an associate degree in business administration with three to five years of experience with employee benefits. A bachelor’s degree in business administration is preferred. Must have knowledge of group insurance, the Affordable Care Act, workers’ compensation, and unemployment compensation. The ideal candidate must have outstanding Microsoft Office skills along with strong communication, including writing and customer relation skills.

Must be able to stand and walk, talk, and hear and frequently sit. The employee may occasionally be required to lift to 30 lbs., such as stacks of papers, etc. The position requires that the individual meet multiple demands from several people and interact with administration, staff, students, and the public. The noise level may be moderate.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or listen. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to hear (maximum of 40 decibels loss); see with near acuity of 20 inches or less and far acuity of 20 feet or more; ability to sit for extended periods; subject to inside environmental conditions.
