Paraeducator / Behavior Support

Partnership Learning Academy, Plymouth CT

Reports to the Principal

Anticipated start date : December 2, 2024

Full Time / Academic Calendar (185 days)

Position Overview : The Paraeducator will work collaboratively with certified teachers, clinician and BCBA to support the academic, behavioral, and social development of students in grades K-5. The individual will provide one-on-one and small group instruction, implement behavior modification and intervention strategies and assist in the creation and adaptation of educational materials to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities.

Major Responsibilities & Requirements :

  • Assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
  • Provide one-on-one and small group instruction in academic subjects, under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Support students in developing independent learning skills and self-management strategies.
  • Assist in maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Implement behavior management strategies and techniques to support students with behavioral challenges.
  • Monitor student behavior and provide feedback to the teacher regarding student progress and needs.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and other school staff to support the overall development and progress of students.
  • Assist in the preparation and adaptation of educational materials and resources to meet the individual learning needs of students.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications / Requirements :

  • Must have taken and passed the ParaPro test or have 2 years of full-time post secondary education (minimum 48 credits) or Associates Degree or higher
  • Previous experience working with children with disabilities within a school setting is preferred.
  • Consistent attendance is an essential function of this position
  • Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and adapt to changing priorities and responsibilities.
  • Excellent professionalism and communication skills
  • Ability to withstand the physical demands of frequent standing, bending, kneeling and therapeutic holding as required.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to lift, move, and position self and students, in accordance with PMT training.
