Summary of Major Functions:
This position assists in preparing and verifying therapeutic meals for patients and employees across all programs. Working under a chef/dietitian to ensure stocking, food rotation, and sanitation needs are met.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implements knowledge of food service regulations, food sanitation and environmental risks; following regulatory requirements.
- Maintains kitchen work areas and equipment.
- Works with nutritional staff to ensure operational abilities of therapeutic menus, learning and following portioning standards to meet individualized patient needs.
- Ensures allergens, dislikes, and religious beliefs are accounted for when plating meals. Utilizes good housekeeping, cleanliness, and quality control.
- Preparing meals and performing additional culinary duties as assigned.
- Ensuring snacks and breakfast items are rotated and restocked daily for patient use.
- Responsible for daily cleaning and sanitation of the kitchen and dining areas across all programs.
- Monitoring inventory and getting groceries as needed.
- Checking emails daily to be aware of any dietary changes, patients at or away from program.
- Provide weekend coverage for culinary staff as needed.
- Other job duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Background in nutrition, culinary, and/or dietetics preferred; strong interest required.
- Food handlers permit required (may obtain after hire).
- Thorough understanding of sanitation and food production regulations preferred.
Computer Skills:
- Minimum of intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Must be able to understand and utilize inventory software system.
Miscellaneous:
- Must be able to drive an automobile and must maintain access to a reliable automobile to use during work hours for ED Care purposes.
Physical Demands and Environment:
Physical demands of this job include but are NOT limited to:
Sitting occasionally, standing frequently, walking occasionally, talking occasionally, hearing occasionally, seeing constantly, reaching with arms and hands occasionally, crouching rarely and using fingers intricately frequently. This position requires lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds occasionally and pushing (in a cart with wheels) up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Environmental conditions of this job include but are NOT limited to:
95% inside, 99% normal temperature and 99% normal noise as expected in a kitchen in a medical office environment.
