Description

Summary of Major Functions

Carry out job duties as Medical Director of Psychiatry for EDCare. Provide leadership to ensure that all psychiatric practices meet professional standards and the needs of EDCare patients across all sites. Provide psychiatric care to EDCare patients.          

 

Medical Director Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Program Leadership

 

  1. Provides leadership, direction, and supervision to all psychiatric Licensed Independent Practitioners (LIP’s).
  2. Establishes practice standards of excellence for all psychiatric LIPs and ensures that these standards are being met across all sites, in collaboration with the Medical Director for medical standards.
  3. Facilitates the coordination of core business functions across all sites; oversee the psychiatric administrative operations of the programs to ensure appropriate services are provided.
  4. Supports EDCare's psychiatric excellence by providing, conducting, and reporting on current trends in the medical treatment of eating disorders.
  5. Ensures that EDCare services are compliant with all applicable contractual and regulatory and accreditation standards.
  6. Perform Clinical Case reviews in conjunction with Clinical and Quality departments.
  7. Participates in Peer Review and Credentialing committees, in collaboration with Medical Director of Medical, to ensure providers are qualified, educated, trained and have the experience to manage EDCare’s patient population.
  8. Develops targeted education and training for, and provides psychiatric guidance, to LIPs and staff.
  9. Develops national professional relationships, presenting at conferences and advancing the services of EDCare and Athlete EDGE.
  10. Promotes growth of EDCare and Athlete EDGE by raising the company’s visibility (through publications, interviews, media contacts, speaking, etc.).
  11. Is the liaison and collaborates with referral organizations to maintain and encourage patient referrals.
  12. Interfaces effectively and timely with clinical personnel, answering questions and available for communications and emergencies.
  13. Creates psychiatric-specific protocols, policies, and procedures.
  14. Training of the psychiatric staff when needed.
  15. Other job duties as reasonably assigned.           

 

 

Management Responsibilities:

 

  1. Maintain a schedule (PTO requests, time off, etc.) that ensures appropriate staffing coverage for all Denver psychiatric LIPs.
  2. Completes psychiatric performance reviews in a timely manner.
  3. Actively works with human resources in the hiring process (reviewing resumes, interviewing, and decision-making).
  4. Attends weekly Manager Meetings.
  5. Attended and participates in EDCare’s quarterly Board of Managers meetings as requested by the CEO.
  6. Actively works with EDCare leaders to establish, monitor, and report on quality measures.
  7. Reports Quality measures to the EDCare Board of Directors.
  8. Understands that management’s ultimate goals must be the profitability, clinical effectiveness, and the overall success of EDCare as a business.
  9. Actively communicate and collaborate with other EDCare clinical leaders and management in establishing and maintaining appropriate clinical standards.

 

 

Psychiatric Coverage Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Provides knowledgeable and thorough psychiatric coverage to all patients accepted for treatment at EDCare.
  2. Is available to staff and treatment teams for questions, communications, and emergencies.
  3. Available to the Admissions Assessment Clinicians for new admissions for psychiatric/ medical assessments.
  4. Coordinates psychiatry coverage with other EDCare psychiatric Providers to ensure appropriate clinical coverage of EDCare services.
  5.  Actively participates in call responsibilities, as needed and mutually agreed upon with the Denver Clinical Director.

 

Psycho-Pharmacology

 

  1. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of appropriate psychotropic medications.
  2. Provides patient education regarding side-effects and efficacy.
  3. Regularly monitors prescribed medications for assigned patients (minimum of every 3 months). 

 

Res, PHP, IOP-Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry

 

  1. Demonstrates ability to provide comprehensive and ongoing assessment, resulting in appropriate treatment and timely discharge.
  2. Coordinates medical care with all Licensed Independent Practitioners inside and outside of EDCare.
  3. Makes referrals to other providers/resources as indicated, including individual therapist, nutritionist, PCP, Family therapist, group, etc.
  4. Creates individualized psychiatric treatment plans with appropriate outpatient goals and objectives.
  5. Demonstrates knowledge of and practice of clinical interviewing/counseling skills (Individual, Couples and Families).
  6. Demonstrates ability to build therapeutic rapport.
  7. Facilitates groups with expertise when needed, demonstrating the ability to engage, set limits, and monitor the group process.
  8. Is creative in therapeutic interventions to include homework assignments, community resources, etc.
  9. Timely completion and accuracy of clinical documentation, including treatment plan updates, progress notes, etc.
  10. Coordinates with other EDCare clinical staff on the disposition of all EDCare patients.
  11. Maintains relationships and professional credentialing with provider panels.
  12. Conducts UR in a timely fashion to ensure the appropriate level of treatment.
  13. Compliance with all EDCare policies and procedures.
  14. Compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards applicable to EDCare.
  15. At EDCare’s expense, obtain licensure in Kansas and Nebraska and other strategic markets as determined by the COO.
  16. Other job duties as reasonably assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

 

  1. MD or DO Degree required
  2. Possess and maintain a valid unrestricted license to practice medicine in Colorado required.
  3. Board certified or Board Eligible required.
  4. Prescriptive Authority certification required
  5. Leadership experience in similar roles and/or demonstrated ability to care for the spectrum of ED patients required.
  1. Good oral and written communication skills required.

 

Physical Demands and Environment:

Sitting frequently, standing occasionally, walking occasionally, talking frequently, hearing frequently, seeing constantly, reaching with arms and hands occasionally, crouching occasionally and using fingers intricately. This position requires lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds rarely.

 

Environmental conditions of this job include but are NOT limited to:

99% inside, 99% normal temperature and 99% normal noise as expected in a medical office environment.
