The Business Development Manager holds a crucial position in advancing our sales and brand presence in the Chicago, Illinois area. As a primary representative of EDCO, your role involves increasing sales and revenue by effectively managing relationships with one-step distributors, builders/remodelers, contractors, and architects within the assigned territory. This is a full-time, exempt position that can be remote within the region.

Customer Relationship Management & Development

  • Develop contractor base in the local market through strategic prospecting and business development, to ensure there is effective coverage for installation and lead follow up
  • Work collaboratively with the marketing department to develop lead generating marketing campaigns to feed contractor business growth and build brand awareness
  • Ensure sufficient support from local distribution that markets, supplies and supports the product needs
  • Provide training when needed to local contractor, builders and distributors
  • Act as business liaison between EDCO and its Distributors.
  • Ensure Distributors and/or dealers maintain the proper product mix, marketing tools and inventory levels to properly service the market.
  • Meet regularly with existing customers to understand their current and evolving business needs.
  • Build long term, productive, mutually beneficial relationships with existing and new customers.
  • Collaborate with distributor(s) to identify growth opportunities. May require traveling with distributor representative(s).
  • Investigate and address inventory, or product quality issues.

Market Development

  • Develop a target list of opportunities and prioritizes in order of importance. Opportunities include strategic contractor and builder targets.
  • Develop a strategic plan to investigate and develop these opportunities in a systematic way from largest to smallest.
  • Work directly with the Regional Sales Manager to capitalize on product conversion opportunities.
  • Source sales opportunities through contractors, architects, and design build firms.

Brand Management

  • Build and promote EDCO’s brand awareness within the sales territory.
  • Seek out and attends trade events, dealer shows, architect shows/meetings and become active in professional organizations.
  • Ensure all EDCO presentations are consistent with EDCO’s brand message.
  • Prepare product knowledge presentations that include brand benefit sections to ensure the various sales teams you will be working with understand our product and can articulate our competitive advantage(s).

Business Management

  • Develop a Sales Goal Strategy with the Regional Sales Manager to ensure results are being tracked and success will be achieved.
  • Achieve sales goals while accountable for managing travel and entertainment expense budget within territory.
  • Demonstrate management skills in the areas of leadership, planning, and organization.

Experience & Competencies

  • Experience in exterior building materials industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related field
  • 3 years sales experience (ideally in a distributor-based business model)
  • Experience with strategic prospecting and business development through targeted customers
  • A desire to win and persevere through building mutually beneficial relationships with customers.
  • Able to communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external customers.
  • Self-motivated and highly organized to strategically grow territory and manage budgets.
  • Possess intermediate or higher PC skills (Outlook, word, Excel, PowerPoint), knowledge of an ERP system and CRM preferable.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time within the assigned region market.
  • Valid Driver’s license and approved driving record
