Education and Experience Requirements
To succeed as a Lab Tech, you should be detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated and able to stand for long periods of time. Strong reading, math, writing, and analytical skills are required and a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Basic computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word software are required. Bilingual is preferred but not required.
Purpose of Position
The purpose of the Wet Side Lab Technician is to collect, prepare, and test meat products using our FOSS Foodscan, record results, generate computer reports, and maintain the lab so there is zero production loss. Also, to ensure methods of inspections, sampling and/or analysis of raw materials, finished product, and work in progress meet national recognized standards and are documented, approved, and meet regulatory and customer requirements.
General Responsibilities
· Prepare, test, and record raw materials and finished products from QA and Kitchen
· Test, read, and record COD Wastewater Samples
· Manage raw material inventory use utilizing FIFO
· Conduct daily verification of incubators, balances, and pH meter
· AOAC product testing and record results
· Density and stability emulsion testing
· Chemical and glassware inventory
· Generate reports daily
· Other tasks as needed by management
Responsibilities of Lab Technician
As a Lab Technician for the wet side, you will be required to stand for most of your shift. You will collect and test raw materials quickly and efficiently to make sure the results are readily available for the Dry Side Lab Tech to make recipes for the kitchen’s production team. The ideal candidate will follow FIFO when sampling raw materials to ensure quality products are produced while keeping your work area clean and organized throughout the day with minimum supervision.
It's critical to adhere to all safety requirements including proper wear of PPE, knife and chemical safety, and prevent and report unsafe acts and conditions when present.
Other Duties
Other duties may include, but are not limited to, helping the QA department as needed, by doing Pre-Op inspections, checking pallets, and LOTO. You will also be required to learn the Dry side of the Lab, making recipes using the Opti system, to fill in when needed, and any other duties required by management.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
· While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
· The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
· While performing the duties of this Job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles, and extreme cold.
Schedule:
8-10 hour shifts
Monday through Thursday
Some Friday and Saturday may be required
