Job Title: Farm Manager- Grow Ogden
Location: 880 28th Street, Ogden, UT
Position Type: Part-time, up to 20 hours per week, $20 per hour
Farm operating hours: 4-6 pm Mon- Fri Session 1: March 19, 2025 to July 9, 2025
Continuing to manage the farm through the end of October. Session 2: July 29, 2025 - November 7, 2025
Organization Overview:
Grow Ogden is a project of Eden Streets, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals to rebuild their lives by providing job training in sustainable agriculture. Our farm, Grow Ogden, currently on a 1/8th acre with potential this year for a 1/4 acre expansion, focuses on cultivating fresh produce for donation to local food pantries. We believe in the transformative power of farming and aim to empower individuals to develop valuable skills for self-sufficiency.
Farm Trainee Demographic:
As Farm Manager, you will be primarily working with those facing or experiencing homelessness. These individuals include those vulnerable populations: veterans, reentering citizens, unhoused, refugees, those assigned community service or recovering from spouse or substance abuse.
Position Summary:
As the Farm Manager, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of Grow Ogden farm, managing a small team of trainees and volunteers, and ensuring the production of high-quality, organic produce for donation to the community. This position involves collaboration with the Operations Manager, Program Manager and Trainee Advocate to support individuals in their journey towards self-sufficiency. You will work with the trainees in a way that builds a mutually supportive, “farmily” environment.
Responsibilities:
1. Farm Operations:
- Plan, execute, and manage all aspects of farming operations, including planting, cultivating, harvesting, and post-harvest handling.
- Implement regenerative farming practices to ensure the production of healthy soils and nutritious crops.
2. Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor a team of at least three trainees and small groups of community volunteers, providing guidance and hands-on training in various aspects of farming.
- Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that supports the personal and professional development of trainees.
3. Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Operations Manager, Program Manager and Trainee Advocate to integrate farming activities into the broader rehabilitation and education programs.
- Coordinate with the team to align farming activities with organizational goals and community needs.
4. Expansion Planning:
- Assess the potential for a 1/4 acre expansion and contribute to the development of plans for increased production and efficiency.
5. Community Engagement:
- Engage with the local community, volunteers, and partners to raise awareness about the farm's mission and encourage community involvement.
6. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of farming activities, yields, and trainee progress.
- Prepare regular reports for organizational leadership on farm performance and impact.
Qualifications:
- Strong personal alignment with Eden Streets’
- Previous experience in organic or regenerative farming or agriculture.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal relationship, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Passion for sustainable agriculture and community development.
- Knowledge of and commitment to regenerative and environmentally friendly farming practices.
