Farm Trainee Support Coordinator - Grow Ogden
Location: 880 28th Street, Ogden, UT (Grow Ogden Farm & Knox Building)
Position Type: Part-time, 8 to 12 hours per week
Compensation: $18–$28 per hour, based on qualifications and experience
Requirements: Social Worker (Preferred: LCSW, SSW or MPH, a minimum of a Bachelors of Social Work)
Farm Operating Hours: Tuesday–Friday, 3:30–6:30 PM (Flexible meeting time hours)
- Session 1: April 1, 2025 – July 1, 2025 (13 weeks)
- Session 2: July 29, 2025 – October 28th, 2025 (13 weeks)
- Note: Staff meeting on Mondays
Position Overview
Grow Ogden is seeking a Farm Trainee Support Coordinator (Caseworker Advocate) to provide guidance, encouragement, and advocacy for farm trainees as they work toward self-sufficiency. In this role, you will support individuals facing or experiencing homelessness by helping them set goals, overcome barriers, and access community resources. Working closely with the Farm Manager and Job-Training Supervisor, you will provide one-on-one mentorship, ensuring trainees have the support they need to succeed in both personal and professional development.
This role is not focused on diagnosing mental health conditions or providing therapy but rather on connecting trainees with external services and resources as needed.
About Grow Ogden & Eden Streets
Eden Streets is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals experiencing homelessness rebuild their lives through sustainable agriculture. Grow Ogden, an urban farm and job-training program, provides transitional employment opportunities while producing fresh, locally grown food for donation to community food pantries. By March 2025, we aim to hire six farm trainees who will receive hands-on training in regenerative farming alongside wraparound support services.
Trainee Demographics
You will work primarily with individuals experiencing homelessness, including:
- Veterans
- Justice-involved individuals (formerly incarcerated)
- Unhoused individuals
- Refugees
- Those assigned community service
- Survivors of domestic violence or substance use recovery
Key Responsibilities
1. Trainee Support & Advocacy
- Meet one-on-one with trainees at least weekly to assess needs, set goals, and connect them with relevant community resources.
- Advocate for trainees within the organization, ensuring their concerns are acknowledged and addressed. (eg. criminal records, justice requirements)
- Foster a supportive environment that encourages personal and professional growth.
- Assist trainees in identifying and overcoming barriers to stable housing and full-time employment.
2. Collaboration & Training
- Play a key role in the onboarding process for new trainees and graduation ceremonies for program completers.
- Work closely with the Farm Manager and Job-Training Supervisor to align support services with program goals.
- Participate in weekly farm staff meetings to tailor job-training plans to trainees’ needs.
- Help design and facilitate farm-based life-skills and job-skills seminars.
3. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain confidential records of trainee progress, achievements, and challenges.
- Track and report on trainee wellness, belonging assessments, and overall program impact.
- Work alongside the Job-Training Supervisor to analyze and report program outcomes.
Qualifications
- Strong personal alignment with Eden Streets’ mission and values
- LCSW, SSW or Masters of Public Health preferred; Bachelors's degree of Social work minimum required
- Experience in case management, mentorship, social work, or advocacy
- Knowledge of local community resources and support programs
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and build trust with trainees
- Compassionate, empathetic, and patient in working with individuals facing hardship
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to work hands-on alongside trainees in farm tasks
