Job-Training Supervisor- Grow Ogden
Location: 880 28th Street, Ogden, UT
Position Type: Part-time, up to 20 hours per week, $20 per hour
Farm operating hours: 4-6 pm Mon- Fri Session 1: April 1, 2025 to July 1, 2025
Session 2: July 29, 2025 to November 7th, 2025 -
Organization Overview:
Eden Streets is a non-profit organization committed to supporting individuals facing homelessness to rebuild their lives through regenerative agriculture. Our farm, Grow Odgen is a flagship project of Eden Streets, currently on a 1/8th acre with potential for a 1/4 acre expansion, focuses on cultivating fresh produce for donation to local food pantries. Grow Ogden is a job training program on an urban farm that transitionally employs those facing homelessness. Grow Ogden plans to hire at least 3 individuals facing homelessness by mid-March 2025. We believe in empowering individuals through practical skills and holistic support. We are seeking a dynamic Program Manager to lead our efforts in transforming lives through agriculture.
Trainee Demographic:
As Farm Job Training Program Manager, you will be primarily working with those facing or experiencing homelessness. These individuals include those vulnerable populations: veterans, reentering citizens, unhoused, refugees, those assigned community service or recovering from spouse or substance abuse.
Position Summary:
As the Job Training Program Manager, you will be responsible for developing and overseeing the job-training program for individuals re-launching their lives, fostering a positive and supportive team, “farmily” environment. To farm trainees, you will be known as their job-training supervisor to whom they report. Collaborating closely with the Farm Manager and Trainee Advocate, you will play a pivotal role in the success of our holistic approach to vocational rehabilitation and skill-building. You will primarily use interactive group activities which foster job- and life-skill development in an fun, uplifting, enjoyable work setting.
Responsibilities:
1. Training Program Development:
- Design and implement a comprehensive, team-based training program that combines hands-on farming experience with life- and job-skills development for individuals relaunching their lives. Build upon program outline and best practices provided by Eden Streets Program Director for each 16-week session.
- Collaborate with Eden Streets Program Director to adapt the program for your session’s clients and constraints.
- Collaborate with the Farm Manager and Farm Trainee Advocate to align training activities with farm operations and goals.
- Apply principles from Jolene Park’s functional well being training into the daily farm experience..
2. Trainee Leadership:
- Lead and mentor a team of at least three (max of 6) farm trainees, providing guidance, support, and encouragement throughout their learning journey.
- Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere that promotes personal physical, emotional, social, and professional growth for trainees.
- Advocate for trainee self-care and improved health and wellness. This includes participating in group cooking and nutrition classes.
3. Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Farm Manager and Trainee Advocate to ensure seamless coordination between farm operations, one-on-one coaching, and training activities.
- Contribute to the development and execution of joint initiatives that enhance the overall impact of the organization.
4. Community Engagement:
- Engage with the local community, especially nonprofits with case managers whose clients fall within the farm’s trainee demographic, to raise awareness about the program and recruit potential trainees.
- Organize community events and workshops to promote the organization's mission and values. Engage primary sponsors, partners, and donors in a way that enhances the value of Grow Ogden for all stakeholders.
- Use social media and other media channels to appropriately share the life-relaunching work occurring at the farm while respecting privacy and the needs of the trainees.
5. Documentation and Reporting:
- Align upon a common set of metrics for daily, weekly, and monthly progress.
- Maintain accurate records of trainee progress, achievements, and challenges using a standard set of metrics as well as qualitative assessments.
- Prepare regular reports for organizational leadership on program effectiveness and impact.
- Collect stories of individuals' lives who have been positively impacted through the Grow Ogden program. Share with Grow Ogden farm and Eden Streets leadership.
6. Advocacy and Support:
- Advocate for trainees' needs and interests within the organization and the broader community.
- Provide additional support or resources as needed to address individual challenges.
Qualifications:
- Strong personal alignment with Eden Streets’
- Passion for empowering individuals through sustainable agriculture and skill-building.
- Experience with supervision or team leading.
- Ability to work on the farm doing farm tasks shoulder-to-shoulder with trainees.
- Dynamic, positive, and energetic personality as someone who sees the greatness in each individual.
- Previous experience in program management, particularly in adult education, skills training, and / or community development.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Able to read verbal and nonverbal cues and rapidly adapt to an individual's needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
